How much will it cost to fix this damage on my car?

It's a 2017 Chevy Volt. I have a $500 deductible on my insurance. They have recommended an 'approved' body shop to get this fixed that seems to be like an expensive place (based on online reviews). So I'd like to see if I can just get this fixed on my own at an independent body shop, so that my premiums don't go up.

Don't be a dumb arse, go to the approved shop and pay your $500.

Approved only means that if they write an estimate and the damage is more than the estimate they can just bill it without having another damage assessment done. You choose who fixes your car, not the ins company. Bring it to Fishers Collison in Gonzales and let him take care of you.

That will cost more than your deductible

$3500 give or take. New bumper cover, fender body work or replace, paint, etc. Gap where fender meets hood at front corner is messed up.

Who did you hit? Trying to get rid of evidence?

Just drive it like it is. As a 17 year old girl you're likely to hit more stuff before finally getting the hang of this whole driving thing. Hang in there kiddo, you will get better.

Who hit you? I'd like to start a scholarship in their name.

Take it to a good body shop--approved or not. You only pay $500 regardless. They can't tell you where to take your car. The approved places will put used replacement parts on the car if that is what the insurance says. Take it where you will get brand new parts--insurance has to pay for it, they just try to get off cheap. Don't let them scare you by saying you might have to pay more if you don't go to one of their "approved" shops.

Wow, really? What makes it so expensive? Is it the bumper cover? This car is a lease. So I can't turn it in at the end of the lease without fixing it, I am assuming. I don't care personally and I can drive around with the damage. I'm just not sure how accidents on leased cars work, since this is the first car I've ever leased.

If the frame didn't move, and it's just the rockerpanel and front bumper, then probably ~2500-4000.
My car is currently in the shop with somewhat the same damage, but my frame moved 2 inches and my radiator busted. costing my insurance $6,000 to repair it.
