My take on the Movie was that BP was not a sponsor in this movie

Halliburton must've been though... name didn't even once get mentioned in the movie, even though it was their substandard concrete that failed.

Bump. This board may have a unique take since most of the main players are LA folks rocking LA accents (Malkovich laid his on really thick). But the set was amazingly well done, it's a Berg joint so they weren't hurting for cash. There's tons of non-CGI detail that had to require major consulting, and the big shots look like they drug a rig into the gulf and blew the hell out of it.
And yeah, BP couldn't have liked their criminally neglegent portrayal. The film put this front and center. There was enough human element to carry it without being cheesnuts and Trace Adkin's brief cameo at the end was suprisingly good.
This probably looked great in theaters but for a redbox or stream it's worth a watch.

Pretty sure they built a pretty big rig at the rundown six flags in Nola

The little girl in the movie is really cute. An up and coming actress for sure.

There was a thread awhile ago where a poster worked on the rig and the main character was nothing like the person in real life. Along with a lot of other significant inaccuracies. I watched it and treated it as a story based on the event.

The fake Cajun accents were amusing especially Malcovich.

I did find it interesting that based on his crew change scene Port Fourchon was north of Galliano.

Yea I loved that. Driving from fourchon to bristow. That, and them having conversations in a quiet chopper. That ain't happening. Lots of nitpicky shite that I noticed but that people who don't do this for a living won't know about

Was a good movie for what it is. I got a kick out of the LSU hoodie Mark Wahlberg was wearing.

So like every other movie based on a true story

I loved that Marky Mark (a rig electrician) got off the helicopter and went to the rig floor in street clothes to ask about a cement bond log.
They also crucified BP. Obviously BP did stuff wrong, but it was a bit over the top as if the BP guys were idiots that just blew off the Transocean guys. As a guy who works in the industry with operator's engineers, it was cringe worthy the way they made out people like the completion engineers. HUGE mistakes were made...people were complacent...but that aspect of it was a bit much.

I watched it last week. Also got a kick out of them driving through Fourchon and flying out of Bristow. Was cool to see a few of our employees in the shots as extras though.
I thought Malkovich sounded like he just had a stroke.
Overall, I didn't really enjoy the movie all that much.
