You can pick any player, past or present, to bat. Who are you sending to the plate?
Although I never saw him play and just going by the stories you hear, I can only say Ted Williams.
Barry Bonds is a close second because a walk is a run.

Bonds is my choice
You can't go wrong though with
Williams
Gwynn
Rose

Bonds is the only answer

2004 Barry Bonds.
.362 average 45 homers only 41 strikeouts
232 walks!
.609 OBP
Yes, give me the guy with a 61% chance of getting on base.

The correct answer is Ted Williams. He has the highest career OBP. All he has to do is get on base to win the game. Statistically, Billy Hamilton would be a better choice than Barry Bonds.

If we were down 3, I agree. With a tie game, there are a lot of legit answers imo. Assuming we're talking in their primes, Dimagio, Gwynn, and Williams come to mind immediately.

Bonds. I would want a patient, disciplined hitter that could hit one out of the yard, get a base hit, or walk home the winning run

I want someone they didn't have to put on a shift for...

You just described Ted Williams.

Rose is 215th in career OBP. Shouldn't even be in the conversation with Williams, Bonds, etc.
