Catholic had on that team: Minor- FSU Applewhite- Texas Greg brown- Texas Shanklin- Kentucky Boone- Clemson And several others that went D1 that I can't remember. Sick talent! Really haven't seen talent like this on 1 team at the skilled positions since.
What's the reason none of these catholic guys went to Lsu?
Not recruited? Wanted to get out of state? I know it was a different time back then but that much d1 talent on one team in Baton Rouge and nobody went to LSU.
Meanwhile, West Monroe (or North La) had talent and some of those guys went to LSU. Bradie James, Tommy Banks, Jack Hunt (Ruston), Evangel (Shreveport) had four or so players on the 1998 LSU team, etc.

I remember my brother playing at Istrouma when they faced Catholic in the 95-96 season when Apllewhite and Minor was there. Catholic won 65-6 .
I guess that was revenge from the year before when Istrouma went to Olympia and knocked beat at the last second Catholic in the last game of the season when CHS was ranked #1.

The 90's was the dark age for LSU.
Bobby Bowden seemed to love Louisiana (especially Catholic with Warrick Dunn and Travis Minor). One of the coolest things I've ever experienced was seeing Bowden in person back then.
Then you gotta think about how Miami had N.O. as a pipeline with players like Ed Reed and Reggie Wayne.
Saban changed all of that when he came to LSU.

Yeah, I get it was dark, but Dinardo had brought the magic back, of course he lost it in 98 and 99. However the 98-99 tiger team had four evangel players on it. Two or three West Monroe guys, etc. 99 added a few Shreveport players (J Booty for one), players from Neville and Ouachita, but only one player from that Catholic team went to LSU. Donnie Jones the punter.
I don't remember but it seems strange Dinardo could get North La players to come, but couldn't get the home town kids to stay.

Travis Minor had around 200 yards rushing in that game. So Catholic had way more than 100 yards.
No he didn't and no they didn't. He might've had around 200 all purpose yards with a 92 yard kickoff and 67 yard TD run. WM held Catholic to 17 yards in the first half and -3 yards rushing.

I helped cover that game for the Advocate. Minor had close to if not over 200 yards rushing in that game. I don't care what the West Monroe stats say. I watched that game and kept the official stats.

Seems logical. Have a nice day.

I did the official stats for the Advocate. He had a 60 plus yard TD in the second half and several other long runs. Had about half the carries Banks had and Banks finally surpassed him in yardage last drive or 2. The was the conversation in the press box. The fact Minor had more yards on so few carries. Congrats on the state title. That was a great WM team. I was pulling for y'all to win. Coaching was the reason WM won that game. I have seen how West Monroe throws around stats on there write up pages for some of these games. And they are inaccurate a lot. If you can find the actual game write up it will show the correct stats.

Me too. He had close to 200. The problem is I feel like Banks had 300. They didn't result in a lot of scores but we couldn't get the ball back.

Was at that game in BR when WM came to town. They had just destroyed my Barbe team the week before.

The year WM beat Catholic with Minor was the start of the WM dynasty if I am not mistaken?
They have probably won 10 state titles since then.
And IMO Catholic should have won that game at WM.
They were the better team regardless of winning or losing.

quote: I think that was 2 year later- Bradie was a monster that game WM housed Shaw in the 98-99 state championship. Bradie James ate up Shaw's TE all night.
Shaw played wm in dome in 97 99 and 2000 Bradie James only played at wm in 98
He never played vs shaw
97 game was 22-19.
99 was close too. Week 1
2000 was 35-7

If Catholic was #1 in Louisiana and #10 in the nation, sucks they had to play that game up in West Monroe.
