Detroit Pistons? Verified account ?

It’s official – we’re moving to @LCA_Detroit next season! #DetroitProud #DistrictDetroit @DistrictDetroit
Kind of interesting as the Palace is still one of the best NBA arenas IMO, it's just in a terrible location. This now brings 15 arenas that will be sharing NHL and NBA teams, as well as all 4 Detroit sports team are now back in the city downtown and are pretty close to each other.

Don't the Pistons own the Palace?

I still liked having one arena in the suburbs. But, to be fair, it wasn't close for people in several parts of town.
The logistical angles of this are fascinating to me. The hockey arena was already halfway built and I know they were contemplating some hoops games because they got some NCAA bids. But, did they just now have to add a couple of more locker rooms for the Pistons? Also, it's one thing if you were a Wings ticket and suite holder who knew they were moving. But, if you had a good suite at the Palace, you're probably going to get fricked over to some extent with the move. The Palace has way more suites, I think. Will the suites give you access to both teams or do you just purchase access for one? How does Staples Center handle all this shite? Do they have 4-6 locker rooms?

Yeah, that's what's weird. I think the owner DGAF and just wants to sell the land. It's still a perfectly good venue, but I think he figures all of the concerts were going to move downtown, anyway.

They should return to the Silverdome.

Pretty sure the Pistons do own the Palace

Yes the ownership group owns the Palace, and if you have ever been to the Palace you know that you can only really park in the Palace parking lot, so they own all the parking revenue as well.
I think the big appeal is that they will now be partners in the new Little Caesars Arena so they will get some revenue from the Redwings games, and the theory is that attendance should increase a little bit with being in a more centralized location.

I thought Auburn Hills was a better spot because Detroit was not desirable? Will old arena be torn down?

Downtown Detroit is actually undergoing a bit of a revival right now and has become a somewhat desirable location. Auburn Hills is a pretty nice area but it's hard to get to and from for most of the Metro Detroit region.
There is nothing official about what's going to happen to The Palace right now but the whispers are it's going to get knocked down. The land is actually pretty desirable because it's in a row of Automotive supplier company headquarters and only a couple miles away from Chrysler's head quarters so the thought right now is that some auto supplier company will buy and build on the land.

Not really that important, but The Palace Of Auburn Hills always had a nice ring to it. Until I watched the Bad Boys documentary, I did not know Pistons used to play at Pontiac Silverdome. What happened to it?

Silver dome is just sitting here rotting away.

It's been vacant since the Lions moved into Ford Field over a decade ago. The parking lot has been used as a drive in movie theater, youth soccer park, and with Chrysler's headquarters being about a half mile away, they use the parking lot to store company vehicles and for overflow parking at company events. I think the plans are to knock it down soon but I'm not 100% sure on that. The land isn't nearly as valuable as where the Palace is so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

As a Wings fan, I'm not sure how to feel about this.

They're gonna shoot lights out downtown

Ilitch and the Wings are the alpha dogs. I'm guessing Gores just decided that being a tenant is better than running a building. I guess it's whatever. The only downside would be if the Wings have to take on some weird playoff schedule to juggle the Pistons and Taylor Swift concerts.

And just like that the home of the greatest sports fight of all time is no more

Some cool pics since the roof is now gone. Makes the Astrodome look damn near usable.
