Lake Henderson Question

Never been but me and a buddy were thinking about fishing there tomorrow. I was wondering if Henderson is popular for duck hunters and should we expect a lot of them? Also,I did some research and saw that LDWF did a draw down this year due to some excess vegetation, anything I should be aware of? I assume there's quite a few stumps around. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

It's extremely low right now. That being said, fish are being caught on structure in 4-6' of water. Fish slow.

Water is really low right now. During the week there wont be much boat traffic so I wouldnt worry about hunters too much. With the low water you might be limited where you can go. Lots of stumps and trees to fish though. Good luck.

There's no ducks on that lake always so don't let duck hunters stop you from fishing after giving the duck hunters a reasonable period of time in the morning

What kind of boat are you in? If you have a flat bottom boat with a small motor, a gator tail or surface drive, or a kayak, you could get into the pits along the levee. You wouldn't have to worry about hunters right there. I've been tearing them up from my kayak in the pits. Plenty of fish in there. Bass, sacalait, and tons of choupique if that's your thing.
ETA: And like the others have said, I haven't been seeing any ducks. And with the water being so low I doubt many hunters will be out there.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in a bass boat. Is the launch still open thats off the interstate by the welcome center? Im looking at google maps. Looks like exit 121.

No it's closed. The only one that's open that I know of is Basin Landing. It's along the levee. McGees might also be open. I'm not sure.

Ok, Thanks for the heads up.

You have been catching sacs in the pits?

If you're on Facebook, look up the Henderson Fishing Reports group and join. Very helpful group. They'll answer any questions you may have.

I haven't fished for them, but I've talked to some of the old timers that have houseboats in the pits and they've been catching some.

That is good to know. You can launch a 14ft. With a 9.9 off the bank right?

I don't see why not. The ground is pretty hard. The last couple feet of bank by the water has been a little soft though. At least where I have been putting in.

Hey baw, go to Turles on the levee to launch. Most others are dry and you'll lose your axle. Be as carful in the channel as you are outside of it. It's dangerously low eveeywheres in the lake. Locate clean water and you'll smoke em'. Hendersons on fire rite now, just remember to idle while out there.
