With your budget you will definitely have to go the roommate route. For the best combination of nice/cool area and short commute, I would look at Old Town Alexandria. After that I would look at Arlington areas of: Courthouse/Clarendon/VA Square/Ballston. A third option would be Shirlington.

Got any info on the arlington heights neighborhood?

I didnt know anyone when I moved to the area so having roommates helped with my social life
once I had my social circle, I could live on my own
as long as your roommate isn't a social liability, you will be fine with the ladies coming over

NOLA doesn't hold a candle to DC traffic. I've been here 8 years only my first year did I live more than 10 blocks from work.

I fully anticipate shite traffic. Have lived in Katy, TX before seen the commute to inner houston.

if you're going to live in arlington, there is no point to do it if you can't walk to the metro. Secondly, that area is a little too transitional for my taste. Traffic on glebe and columbia pike is going to drive you nuts too

Huh okay didn't know any of that.

If I were you I'd live one one of the high rises near Huntington, or near the braddock road or king street metro stops. That way you can easily come in to the city and your commute isn't terrible.

rentals there are going to be more low income and the houses are going to be tear downs that families of young professionals are buying.
single 27 year old probably wouldn't like it.
I'd really look at Old Town, especially if a landlord owns a condo building with 6-12 units. It'll be older but you can get some good deals and you'll be able to walk everywhere

Huntington is building out pretty nicely now

I can't disagree more.

So you're saying traffic won't be bad?
Posted on 11/20/16 at 9:27 am to themasterpater
I'm saying I make it from central Rosslyn to Arlington Square on 395 or 50 during peak traffic time in 8-15 minutes every single day.

columbia pike still sucks arse to deal with. I wouldnt want to live off it and have to drive around it to run errands, etc
