My buddy can't drive a stick worth a shite so every time he pulls my boat out of the water he has to put it in 4WD.
So twice a week on average.

I'm looking to make a truck purchase before the end of the yr. I've been pricing 3/4 ton gassers to tow a travel trailer or light 5th wheel. The 4wd's I've looked at have added 2-3k to the price, not 10k. But the kicker is a 4WD 3/4 ton tends to tow 100-200 pounds less than a RWD. I'll probably go with the RWD as the roads at my hunting camp are pretty well maintained and I need all the towing capacity I can get in the gasser.

Same here, but this year might not be a problem.

I drive the streets of NOLA, so I use 4x4 daily

What truck is it $10k more for?
I have 4x4, rarely use it but it's nice when I've had to. I don't think I have used it on the truck I got in may yet.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I use mine spring thru fall once or twice a month, fall thru spring once a week.

It's worth it for even the one time you need it

I'd save on a 4x4 truck and get a mule or ranger

I'd like one but I've never needed 4WD and that's after 3 years of PA winters with a 2WD, manual transmission truck.

If I go 4x4 it will be a GMC Z71 that I found for a good price, if I go 2x4 its a chevy LT that is stupid cheap so its not quite apples to apples.

So when I invite you on a great duck hunt and my truck is full , what you gonna do . If it's wet in Jonesville ain't nobody making it to our blind without 4wd .

I've only truly needed 4x4 a few times. Most of the time I've used it to minimize damage to property and to pull someone else out. With that said, I usually pay a few thousand more for it and will continue to do so, as I feel I get most of it back on resale.
In your case of 10k difference, I would go 2x4 unless I just knew I needed it. Save the 10k, buy a good tow strap and offer someone $100 to pull you out.

Probably averaged out to once a month now. Used to use it every day

when I had mine I used it every hunting season all season...off hunting season it probably got used a couple of times a year usually at a dirt launch site or to pull somebody out of a hole of some sort...

another 10K for the trucks I have narrowed down to.

Most 4X4 I see on the road are just that... shiny road trucks driven by beta boys desperately trying to be significant.

You will be happy to have it if,
you have a heavy truck (3/4 ton or more)
you frequent steep or soft boat ramps
you tow anything heavier than a boat off over top soil or lawns.
As previously mentioned, a light single cab 2wd with decent tires should get you to and from the stand/pond no problem.

When I'm at my place in California, only when I haul ATVs to the sand dunes at Pismo Beach. At my place in Oklahoma, almost daily.
