I agree with this, I just think the severity of the punishment that the guy got for shooting the bear was overboard. I think a stiff fine would have been enough.

I don't think my buddy was looking to get off free. He did self-report and accepted that he'd be penalized.
The problem is this, the penalty is just as harsh if you self-report or if you get caught. Let's be honest, the vast majority don't get caught. So the rational albeit morally sketchy response is to take your chances with getting caught. Sucks to look at it this way, but it is what it is.

Oh wow, big tough guy.
Don't get so pouty when someone shits on your stupid, misdirected anger.
How about instead of being a pouty little kid, you look at the fact that there is no freakin correlation between abortion laws and wildlife laws, and that that idiotic idea makes no sense.

This ain't like shooting robins, being a bird over the limit, or running water chickens in your mud boat. I can understand youthful indiscretion, but something like this warrants a harsher response than the standard slap on the arse for being a dumb kid.
Absolutely. We all did dumb stuff. For a lot of us (myself included) that included some unethical hunting practices that we, as adults, would not consider now.
But at 19 years old you are an adult. At 19 you know how serious it would be to kill an endangered animal. This was a complete disregard of everything we hunters say we care about.
I support 100% maximum penalty of this "kid." The threat of accountability and consequences reaches pretty far into the minds of others.

I think it's exactly what the guy said earlier, if everyone got off easier by self-reporting, would the problem be fixed?
It sets an example. Doesn't matter if you self-report or not, same punishment. It really is a shitty situation, but if they let everyone off with a slap on the wrist just because they self-reported, does the problem get fixed? Do you prevent people from committing the same crime?
Now, was a felony charge warranted? Being that he self-reported, that does seem rough. Could have easily reduced that to a misdemeanor since he did report.

Good video. I like the quote from the FWS guy...
"They were so rare... and they've made such a comeback that they really symbolize conservation in North America."

I'm not the one bitching about two completely unrelated issues. That was you.
You want to complain about that crap, take it to the Poli board, or your congressman. Otherwise, shut up.
BTW, you never answered my question. How would you feel if this punk was poaching deer or ducks out of a season? Still don't think they should go after him because abortion is legal?

For two fricking birds? That's an it overboard IMO. I did a lot of stupid shite as a youngster that I've learned from.
This is why we can't have nice things.

GTFO of here with that political bull shite
I think his point is valid...
shitty people nowadays value a frickin animals life over human life...just something to ponder...
now don't get me wrong...there are some low life scum in this world that I would value my Dogs life over...but we have a bond...it is not thye same with a wild bird or game animal.

I don't see his point being valid at all.
You can be as outraged as anyone over the loss of human life and still be absolutely digusted with what this guy did - they're not mutually exclusive.
This is the outdoor board and thus outdoor/wildlife topics are covered. There is no sense in bringing up abortion in this thread at all and nobody has said the lives of these two birds were more valuable than human life (which is good, b/c they're not).
The outrage is the destruction and killing of a very precious and fragile piece of wildlife that a lot of time and money have been invested into. There are only so many and then they're gone forever.

I agree and think it's good to not allow him to hunt ever again.

Don't waste your breath. You can't change the minds of the "You can't kill a bird, but you can kill a baby" people. They will never understand that the two are not the same, will NEVER be the same, and that a person can, in fact, believe that both are wrong.
I challenge anyone who thinks it is a joke that this is punishable and abortion is not to answer this question: IF this punk had killed a deer or duck out of season, would you still feel he should not be punished?
Posted on 10/27/16 at 4:11 pm to Cowboyfan89
I'm still trying to find the part where anyone valued animal life And human life equally.
