Ford E150 Van, hard to fill with gas. (Help me MJ2, you're my only hope) lol

I know when the gas goes in the air in the tank goes to the EGR system. Though not being familiar with vans I cannot find the cannister. Stupid ford called this thing the E150 so every search of course gets your F150 results
It took me like 20 minutes to put $30 of gas in.
Is there a quick fix ( a rig) until I change the EGR canister or the solenoid?
It looks like the lines run above the spare tire. I am new to these vehicles and it's doubtful many people here are familiar with them.
Just an annoying issue.

In the old days cars just let the fuel vapors escape into the air, and things went fine. Now you have to run fuel vapors through this and that and its just nuts.

Look for a purge valve in your search phrase. That may help.

You sure it wasn't just a slow pump or is this every fill up?

Last two fills. Pump was fast. It cuts out likes it full. I have to hold the pump handle halfway to slow it down and then hold the tip outside the fuel hole so air can get out too. It's an obvious blockage. I have seen it before. Usually a mud dauber nest or debris in a line somewhere.
Bullfrog's suggestion led me to the correct part name. I have located that it is indeed above the spare tire. Guess I am going to tackle that this weekend.
No real easy way to "rig" it without getting under vehicle, disconnecting line before fueling and then reconnecting it before starting. Not doing all of that.

has nothing at all to do with the Emissions system. You have a vent check valve sticking in the filler neck.
ETA- Venting does go through the charcoal canister. Probably a full canister.

Pull the nozzle out slightly and don't hold the handle down all the way.

I'm beyond that. I'm actually holding it now so that the fuel is exposed to full air for about a quarter inch before it gets to the filler neck. So I can see it start to back up and then I stop and let it go down, then it backs up again, so repeat. I've yet to give this thing more than a half tank yet.

You sure the vent line didn't come off of the back side of the filler spout? Is gas leaking?

ha. Found the hose in the link you posted. Mud dauber nest in it. Cleaned it out really good with compressed air. Will try putting gas in it later. I was trying to find some info like that. Thanks a lot, seriously. Not the first time you helped me when I was stuck mechanically.

I'm having the same problem on occasion with my Silverado... should I troubleshoot the same way napoleon did?

Good to hear, I have a GMC that was doing the same thing. Had to get something changed out on the tank itself. Works fine now.

You idiot. Just drive as fast as you can. You get better MPG that way. So you won't have to fill up nearly as much

yes. It has to be a vent problem.
The air in the tank has to displace as you add fuel. If the fuel goes in slow then the air isn't displacing.
My '67 Mustang had a vent that faced you, when it filled up all the way gas just shot back out at you. The vent prevents this and keeps the hydrocarbon fumes out the atmosphere.

Word of caution, do not over fill your tank. Fist click of the pump and stop. Any more will backflow into your charcoal canister and vent valve and ruin them. Seen this way too many times.
