Ensminger as offensive coordinator

This is not a Coaching Changes thread. I am not advocating anyone be hired or not hired.
I have read disparaging comments about Steve Ensminger on this board for years. I think LSU fans are now seeing that this guy is a very good offensive mind.
I remember when he was coaching Eric Zeir at Georgia and leading them to a 10 win season in 1992 and led the SEC in offense and scoring. He was a young hotshot guy at that time that we, as struggling LSU fans with Hallman as our coach, hoped would someday come home and coach the Tigers.
He then went to Texas A&M and Clemson as offensive coordinator where he had some excellent numbers.
I'm sure he will make some mistakes as he hasn't been a primary play-caller in a long time, but this guy knows how to call a game and has done it at the highest levels. Orgeron didn't hesitate to turn over full control on the offense to him.
I'm excited to see what he can do. Regardless, I would not be surprised to see him as an offensive coordinator somewhere next year.

Besides that First Drive I was pleased with the calls. With a Smart, Poised Quarterback like Etling making the right reads, sliding in the pocket and throwing it away when needed this Offense can move the ball at will. Happy for Coach E making the most of his opportunity.

Look im no negative nancy but lets see what happens in the next 4 games before we make coach O the head coach and Ensminger the O/c. lot of football still to be played.

Ensminger is a journeyman off coord, I can't imagine he's the long term answer even with Coach O getting the job.

He may not want the OC position long-term.

The team is constantly improving. I'm actually excited about what this team is becoming and this is all being done with the Miles playbook. I'm sure with people like you though, if we do beat Alabama, it'll be a fluke and then it'll be the next three games that are the real test. Just let people enjoy a much improved football team without your negative bullshite cluttering up the thread.
I'm not saying who should be the coach or OC, I'm just saying let's actually enjoy watching good football again and having a legitimate chance at accomplishing something in the conference.

I think he's said that he's very happy as an highly paid assistant coach. I could see him going back to coach TE's.

Right, I just wanted to let people know who this guy is and where he has been. He's not just some random tight ends coach thrust into the OC position. This guy played QB for LSU and has called plays at the highest levels with much success.
As stated, I am not saying he should get the job. But 20-plus years ago, LSU fans were dreaming that he was our OC. It's happening now and let's just enjoy this season.

There is a reason his name doesn't roll off anyone's tongue when top OC's are mentioned.

His career hasn't all been wine and roses. In his last SEC stint at Auburn, he was demoted from QB coach after the 2003 season, where for whatever reason, he was calling the plays rather than the offensive coordinator. They basically were working as co-OCs.
It was a disaster and their offense was a mess. Granted, he had to follow Bobby Petrino, and there were probably too many cooks in the kitchen, but it was still pretty bad. Bad enough, in fact, that AU tried to dump Tubervillle to go hire Petrino before the season was even over. Remember that whole mess? It is worth noting that Tubs thought enough of him to keep him on as TE coach, while he fired most of the rest of that staff.
Maybe he has improved over the years and would be fine. I just personally think he has a lot more to prove than Orgeron. If O was hired, based on his current approach, it looks like he would be pretty hands off and let the coordinators do their jobs. That means, if we hire him or another head coach like him, we need a lights-out, can't miss OC. We need someone who we can trust to be as good or better than the other offensive minds in the SEC not just now, but over time. I recall Studs and Krags looking passable for most of 2011. Not so much in 2012.
I like the fact that he's an alum who wants to be here. I would love it if he decided to go back to his old job and makes way for a big OC hire, no matter who the head coach is. Our TEs look very good. Despite their low use rate under Miles, it looks like Ensminger was doing a solid, under the radar job there.

Why? It's obvious they are capable. We need a solid staff to keep important recruiting going strong.

That's an understatement. He was coaching high school not too long ago. My intent was not to whitewash his career. However, it is easy for the careers of assistant coaches to be torpedoed through no fault of their own. Head coaches sacrifice them and ruin their careers to save their own.
The end of the Tuberville era was a disaster and many assistants did not recover from that.

They got way too cute on that first drive. I found myself yelling at the tv,"Run the toss dive!"

He's not world breaking as many people believe. He runs a very average offense! This is what I've been saying, We are so talented that even with an AVERAGE offense, we can dominate. this is more on how Miles just wasted talent and wasn't even capable of running an average offense.

He's doing a great job.

I'm pretty confident LSU won't have a tight ends coach going forward.
