I sat down and visited with the dad of a friend of mine that had lung cancer and was given just a few weeks to live, a few months ago, we sat there talking under his carport, he was on oxygen, chain smoking away, said he did it to himself, had smoked since he was 9 or 10 years old, wasn't in pain, and didn't feel sorry for himself

My great grandfather quit smoking at age 97 when he moved to the nursing home after 80+ years of smoking. He died at 104.
He almost got kicked out of the nursing home for beating some 70 something year old young whipper snapper with his cane for cheating at checkers.

I have been dipping for over 40 years. Go to the dentist every 6/8 months for cleaning and checkup and my dentist says he really cannot tell I dip.
Buddy of mine is an ENT and he will look at you and tell you he sees mouth/throat cancer from dippers and smokers but also has patients with mouth/throat cancer that have never touched a tobacco product.
My neighbor's friend just go diagnosed with Lung cancer and she has never smoked and was not raised by parents who smoke.
IMO....I think you are genetically predisposed to cancer whether you do bad stuff or not on the other hand, why take the risk.

My mom still smokes 2-3 a day. She is 75 and has smoked a few cigarettes a day since her 20's. She still works full time and gets around ok. She has gotten bronchitis in the past year and it was pretty bad. The doctor told her at her age she really needs to quit. The nurse told her at her age why bother

There is a reason every single health care question you get no matter what you are going for gets asked every single time.
"Do you smoke or other tobacco?"

My best friend's grandmother passed this summer at the age of 92. She smoked cigarettes her entire life starting when she was like 11. And it wasn't the cigarettes that killed her.

My dad quit smoking 14 years ago and was diagnosed with lung cancer this past spring at the age of 70. On the flip side, I know a man who smoked cigars from the age of 6 to the day he died 93 years later without any issues. So,who knows..
