I had the original 3 on VCR, which did not have the added CGI. Washed away due to Katrina. I don't have a vcr now either so too bad for me

Harmy did a lot of God's work several years ago. Hopefully, this helps him get even closer to a pure HD version.

I like the background CGI, but the scene with Jabba is terrible. I'm glad it was never in the originals, it makes Jabba seem much more imposing to never actually see him until ROTJ. Not only does Han step on Jabba's tail in the new scene, but what crime boss worth their salt would actually chase down Han instead of having Han come to him? If that conversation were to take place it should have been at Jabba's palace after a kidnapping.

I actually own these. I think this might be the last time the original theatrical releases hit any medium. These discs featured both the edited and theatrical releases on them.

damn that's good stuff there.

Of all the things I lost in Katrina, which was everything, but my sports reporter memorabilia and the 3 vcr editions of Star Wars were the things that still linger to this day

Bingo. Not a lot of people know about those releases. Made a special point of buying them when they came out because I knew it'd probably be a one time thing for a while. They're basically the laserdisc versions on DVD.. There are some issues with the framing on widescreen TV's I believe. Personally I dgaf. Holding into them dearly until they finally do the series justice....

God I'm so glad he has nothing to do with the future of this franchise

...and like any good Dad, the theatrical versions are the ONLY ones my sons have ever seen. I've never even taken the other disc out of the cases the entire time I've owned them!

But seriously...why would I? I want to share with them the movie I saw in the theater when I was 7 years old. Not something George Lucas came up with years later in a fever dream. Those edited versions are NOT Star Wars...even if that had been better, which they were not.
