Scenario 1: Tom Herman has made it known through private conversations with LSU officials that he will come if offered, HOWEVER, Coach O runs the table including winning the SEC and a New Years Day bowl. (No playoff though because of 2 losses)
We don't have to worry about this scenario. I'm not a betting man, but I would bet just about my life's savings that LSU will not, under any circumstances, go undefeated under an interim head coach.
Scenario 3 is most likely. This team's current ceiling with the remaining 8 games is around 6-2. LSU doesn't have more than perhaps three, and even that number is questionable, guaranteed wins on the remaining schedule. It would be a decent accomplishment on Orgeron's part given the current state of affairs, but it doesn't warrant him being offered the job.
The key is long-term sustainability and returning to the status of one of the top programs in the nation. Are you really confident that Orgeron has the capability of making this a 10-win team or better on a regular basis? Because I don't.
I think he's probably one of the three best defensive line coaches in all football. He's a great representative of this state, but he has no business being the "CEO" of one of the biggest brands in collegiate athletics.

While I agree, it would certainly be sweet and it would really put the search committee in a tough spot.
