i realize this is anecdotal, but i don't smoke cigs and have tons of internet friends so there's pretty much no correlation between smoking and being cool.

I smoked for 6 years and quit a while back.
I used to smoke for the sick, wicked buzz. I quit cause heartburn was getting bad. After I quit, heartburn went away. After the heartburn went away, I felt cooler than I felt with the cig. So yeah, you could say I'm the 1% who made it out alive.

90 minutes a month maybe. And I live in cancer alley. And my grandparents smoked into their late 60s, quit, and lived to be over 90.
