If you are indeed a Ph.D candidate, you should know that man's relation to objective, absolute truth began to dissipate some 200 years ago. Even the idea that there is an objective truth has become circumspect and its obtainability has been in doubt for some time now. Damn that Kierkegaard!

Fair point, but what happens if laws, policies, and societal opinions continue to perpetuate wrongdoings from yesteryear? Maybe not to the pure extent of their original manifestation, but perhaps in a way doesn't allow us to move on fully from our past.
