Alright Al Bundy, why don't you help a brotha out and sell me something that will work better for my situation.
Grow to a grown up shoe store that sells shoes in more than one width. Have a salesperson size your feet. Buy a pair of shoes in that size.

It's not, but I wouldn't recommend average department store black dress shoes. You need something with high quality leather that can take polish well.
Something like AE Park Avenues that are well polished would be fine. Kenneth Cole slip ons, not so much

Point taken, but I generally would hold this to be true for everyday business wear too.

Guess I'll just have to tell the girl at J&M that she sucked at her job.

I know, same here. But I don't know the OP's perspective on such things

Maybe. Could be the brand. Take a step up from J&M. If you're having to "break in" your shoes and they're causing you pain (particularly over multiple wears), they're not the right size, no matter what Leslie at J&M tells you.

Good point. I tend to live in a bubble in certain areas.

Kanye wore black suede lace up shoes with a tux...does that make it trashy?
yes...yes it does.

Not trashy.
A nice dress show is perfectly acceptable with a tuxedo. Preferably a nice-high polished leather as opposed to a flat black.

That's the thing,I have other pairs from there that never give me problems. I've wondered if its just that particular shoe.. I'm game for a different brand, b/c a good dress shoes will last a long time when cared for properly. I'm not opposed to spending extra cheese on a quality shoe that I'm in every day for work.

If you are holding Kanye out as your fashion icon then I can't help you.

A nice pair of polished cap toes from Cole Haan or Allen Edmonds will suffice. Make sure they are nicely polished though. I don't particularly care for the patent leather and wearing them is NOT a must with a tux.

I'm assuming OP has middle America black dress shoes. If ever in doubt, just rent shoes that come with a tux normally, IMO. Also ask the folks getting married. They may want everyone to look the same.

I'd never buy Cole Haan over AE, but for this purpose, I had some Cole Haan cap toes that looked almost to the level of patent leather in shine. They were pretty shitty shoes in the long run, but I wore them with tuxes.

If you live in Louisiana, are between the ages of 24-40 and attend Mardi Gras Balls every year it makes financial sense to buy.

I wear black lizard cowboy boots with my tux

what I wore for my wedding...no reason to rent shoes and have your feet hurt all night...but ask the bride to make sure she is cool with...it's ultimately her day/call
