I've gotten lost in a sea of models this last week.
But wasn't GFS the one that consistently stuck to 99L taking the northeastern turn and targeting Florida? Or am I wrong on that? I recall one model being chastised for somewhat stubbornly insisting the storm would ride the west coast of Florida. As well as HWRF's insistence that it would blow up into a monster.
Not that I'm putting much stock in what one model suggests this far out.

we're still going 3+ years without a hurricane in the gulf, correct? I know there was a thread on it recently so don't feel like this can be a jinx.

I wish that would happen to me.

Here is what the 18z GFS does with the wave that is still currently over Africa. This is way, way, way long range though, so take with a huge grain of salt.

Has there ever been a hurricane that's come directly off the coast of Africa and gotten into the gulf and made land fall in the US?

Yes, most gulf storms come off africa at some point

Yes. Many.
But I would say it's incredibly unlikely to follow the current predictions.

Yeah, many hurricanes are known as Cape Verde Hurricanes. They roll off of Africa near the Cape Verde Islands as a tropical wave and begin their trek across the Atlantic. Hurricane Ivan in 2004 was one such storm, in fact, Ivan became a Cat 4 hurricane before it even got to the Lesser Antilles.

Know this model is so far out it's a joke (went from Louisiana to Miami now to DC just within the past 24 hours). However, still looks like it will be something to monitor over the next week or two, euro has it on the east coast

there seems to be two storm tracking threads...we need to settle on one...thoughts?

Well, this one is supposed to be a general tracking thread and the other is just for TD9, right?
If not, I'm mistaken and this one should be anchored.

This one is for random post on systems that don't look to impact the Gulf or that are way off in model land and the other is for the Gulf system. Obviously, I'll defer to your judgement.
Like, I was just going to post this about Hawaii in here:
Big waves for sure coming up:

Maybe rename the two threads to clear up any confusion, but I don't have any suggestions because they both are accurate. Maybe if TD9 gets upgraded to a Tropical Storm & gets a name that will help differentiate the two.
