A very interesting rumor about Ben Affleck’s upcoming Batman movie dropped last week, but no one noticed! I’m happy to share it here on Batman News, and it will probably get the attention it deserves around the web now.
According to reliable sources over at BOF, Ben Affleck may find himself locked up in Arkham Asylum in his solo Batman movie. This wouldn’t be a straight up adaptation of the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game or the graphic novel by Grant Morrison, though. Affleck has said that his Batman movie will borrow elements from previous Batman stories, but that he’ll be telling an original story.
This rumor lines up with the rumor we heard a couple of months ago that said that many of Batman’s famous villains will be making appearances in the movie. One natural way to make that happen is to have it take place in Arkham Asylum where they’re all locked up!
What do you make of this latest rumor? Would you like to see Ben Affleck’s Batman movie take place inside Arkham Asylum? Let me know in the comments below.

Kind of interesting.
I would like to see a balls to the walls adaptation of Killing Joke, personally. (Directed by David Fincher and with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Joker)

Sounds cool. Jett has good Warner bros sources at bof so probably some truth to it.

I'm picturing a Raid or Dredd style movie taking place in Arkham. Batman gets locked in for the night and has to fight his way through. We did see something like this in a video game, but I still think it could be cool and different from any Batman movie we've seen before.

Bit of a Hijack: Are there any Batman comics that are set solely in Arkham similar to the video game?

Yes. It was released in 2005. The game came after. I think it would be cool to see on the big screen as long as the story is completely different.

I don't know if this is a good idea or a bad idea, but if true, that seems pretty transparent...they want to rip off the batman games that were fricking awesome.

quote:And therein lies the problem for me. People are already drawing comparisons to the games after BvS. This will be more of that. Even though I think it's a cool idea and a great set up that I want to see Batman in on the big screen, the reaction will be people getting pissy. I just wonder if they need to even bother with it considering the fact that they need some good buzz right now.

That was my first thought as well. Which simultaneously increased and decreased my interest in the idea.

Well it's a fair criticism. Are there any new ideas? Maybe not

Would be awesome.
But Batman is a studio's gold mine. And studios like formulas, and the Batman formula will call for a love interest.

Maybe, but I don't think it is if the story is something completely different. I would hope people can just wait and see, which let's face, that never happens.
But I do understand the criticism. If the movie is badass, none of that will matter, IMO. Nobody gave Dredd a chance in hell and IMO, it turned out to be greatness.
It's a beloved setting in Batman lore. There is no other place I want to see Batman spend a night in hell other than Arkham. I think they could make a terrifying/badass thriller that I want to see on screen. The story can in no way resemble the game though, other than the premise.
Who really knows, though. This is just a rumor. We'll just have to wait and see...

quote:Maybe, but that's easy. Catwoman? Ivy? Talia al Ghul? There's a way to do that in the not so traditional sense.

again, i don't know if it's a good idea or a bad one, I only know that it wasn't an original idea, and that it wasn't their idea
that doesn't mean it couldn't be awesome. Affleck's batman was the only non repulsive thing about the bvs movie.

Yes please.

Hell yeah!
I really believe Affleck has been tossing around ideas for Batman movies for a long time now. Every comic book fan does. So this could be really good.

Well, not everybody plays video games and isn't quite aware of how fricking epic the arkham trilogy was.
It makes sense to bring that to the live action big screen and showcase it and who cares its a rip off if it's a good movie and makes a shite ton of money.

I don't mind a love interest, but if they go that route, I want it to be Catwoman. I love the Hush graphic novel and their relationship is a good one that really hasn't been touched on. Yea, she was in Batman Returns, but it could be done much better.
