Help tracking some servicemen down

I am trying to help someone in a foreign country locate some US Army soldiers who helped them and showed them great kindness 30 years ago (in a foreign country.) I have the names, post, and years in question. What is the best way to track these guys down and put them in touch with this person? TIA

Do you know their rank or city/state they are from?

Considering your radical leftist post history, you really intend to have them charged with war crimes

No. I can ask the person, but I don't think they know that. Basically, just the names and years and base. Can I just go to the army base around here and tell them the situation and they can be of assistance or is there a searchable database of past rosters?

One of the only systems that would be helpful would be medical, as those members, if retired, would still be able to be seen at the medical facilities, and have updated contact information.
The problem is no medical professional could give you that information, haha.

If you know the unit, most have a Facebook page. You're not going to get anywhere showing up on post with a name, rank, and duty station from 30 years ago.

I hope that's not a euphemism...

That's disappointing (but good) to know. Thanks.

The "National Personnel Records Center",9700 Page Ave. in St. Louis, Mo. 63132-5100 maintains the records for prior servicemen. We wrote them for my wife's dad who was a marine in WWII and got copies of his basic training records, conduct records, and locations where he fought. They even sent copies of his pay records. You could write them and ask just what is needed to locate the info on certain individuals.

Write a story and post it on your FB - chances are, your friends will share it and it might gain traction.
We've been able to track down our old maids from Sri Lanka and the Philippines from 20+ years ago.

You got lucky. The fire of 1971 destroyed a s-ton of WWII vet's records, including my grandfather's. I got a letter back from them stating most of his were nearly unreadable

You can get just about any info you want if it's been 62 years or more (like WWII service members). If it's been less than 62 years then you only have access to very limited info unless you are the next-of-kin.

I'm pretty good at researching military records. I usually work with WWII or earlier stuff but I might be able to track something down with the info that you have.
If you want me to try, send over the info and I'll take a look - longbaugh3 at gmail

Thanks for the offer. Is it likely that the military records will include current contact info?

No. The best you'll probably get is their city and state of record.
