So as time goes by, we get more craft breweries here in the state. I don't go to bars that much anymore so my exposure to some of these is limited to what i can find on the shelf at Calandro's or Cuban. So just for fun, and which will undoubtedly rustle some jimmies, what is your rank for Louisiana breweries?

Of the newer breweries, what are your opinions on their beers and the brewery as a whole?

Below is a list of breweries in Louisiana. Feel free to let me know which ones i left off and i'll add to the list. I tried to list them in order of opening.

Abita - Abita Springs
Bayou Teche - Arnaudville
Covington - Covington
Crescent City Brewhouse - Brewpub
NOLA - New Orleans
Parish - Broussard
Tin Roof - Baton Rouge
Great Raft - Shreveport
Chafunkta - Mandeville
Gnarly Barley - Hammond
Courtyard - Brewpub - New Orleans
Old Rail - Brewpub - Mandeville
Chappapeela Farms - Amite
40 Arpent - Arabi
Cajun Fire - New Orleans
Mudbug - Thibodaux
Broken Wheel - Natchez
Second Line - Brewpub - New Orleans
Urban South - New Orleans
Southern Craft - Baton Rouge
Red River - Shreveport
Crying Eagle - Lake Charles
Flying Heart - Bossier City
Cottonport - Sterlington
Cajun Brewing - Lafayette

Damn, that list is really long these days. Love it.

I have to say Parish and Courtyard would be my top two with Nola or Great Raft coming right behind.

Hasn't Covington gotten any better in the last few years? I had written them off a while back.

I haven't even tried the majority of those.

NOLA makes some high quality stuff, but most of it just isn't my style.

Abita makes good fruit beers, but none of their other stuff is remarkable.

Tin Roof makes the best Russian Imperial Stout I've ever had (Smilin' Ivan). Turnrow is also a decent light style beer, but nothing else is all that inspiring.

Not an IPA fan, but Ghost and Envie are pretty darn good. Pair them with one of the best lightish style beers I've ever tasted in canebreak and Parish is probably the one to beat.

I've never really loved anythig from Bayou Teche.
Covington is really inconsistent, I find. They were better as Heinerbrau.

What little I've tried from Gnarly Barley has been good and I look forward to trying more.

Really surprised you out Abita below the likes of 2nd line, old rail, and especially Tin Roof.
I'm no Abita defender, but below tin roof? LOL

I guess the Abita select beers I've had from time to time make me give them that bump.

Old Rail is real strong. Southern Craft is pretty good too. Think they've surpassed Tin Roof right out the gate. I would say Parish is still tops in the state.
I have a soft spot for Abita, because they were pioneers. For a long time, Amber was my go-to at bars.

Opinions are like assholes, right?

Definite bump from 4th to 3rd tier for me, when combined with them finally scrapping Jockamo.

Plus their new Blueberry Wheat was better than expected.

The only thing I get from this list is that I have some serious drinking to do whenever I visit home again.

I don't go to traditional bars, either, but I do enjoy going to breweries and taprooms. The crowded bar with loud music doesn't appeal to me, but a taproom (no music, maybe some muted tv's playing sports) is right up my alley. Nice, quiet, and relaxing...

1st Tier - Represent LA extremely well in National beer scene
Parish
Great Raft
Bayou Teche
NOLA

2nd Tier - Potentially have one or two great beers, high quality on rest of portfolio
Red River
40 Arpent
Abita (Based on overall quality, not impact it has had on LA beer scene)
Old Rail
Courtyard
Second Line

3rd Tier - No trouble with drinking many of portfolios but some duds IMO
Chafunkta
Gnarly Barley
Tin Roof
Southern Craft
Broken Wheel
Mudbug

Rest - Would rather not drink
Crescent City Brewhouse - Even though this is a decent walking around option if passing brewery
Flying Heart

Not Enough Knowledge
Chappapeela Farms
Urban South
Crying Eagle
Cottonport
Covington - Haven't had a beer from theirs in years
Cajun Brewing

Cajun Fire - New Orleans - Not a real brewery yet

Gnarly Barley being in the same group as Tin Roof is criminal.
