I can't help you with that, but hopefully someone here can and you get the info you need.
Small update: After discussions with the wife, we will be heading to Highlands and Bryson City. We will be enjoying a relaxing trip with little pressure to do a lot of stuff. We will go see some of the beauty nature has to offer us up there (waterfalls, gardens, mountains, etc.). My wife has agreed that hikes no longer than a half mile will be no problems with the kids. She wants to do the train ride to the Nantahala Gorge and spend some time in the Deep creek area. Also venture into the national park and see Clingmans dome, Cades Cove, etc.
I will probably have to clean my phone out to make enough room for pictures.
If I get some good outdoor photography, I will share with you guys when we get back. Thanks for all the help.
One last request if anyone can help with it. Good, fair priced lodging in the Highlands and Bryson City area? TIA

I hear the mountains of Afghanistan are breathtaking this time of year.
