What's the max distance you'd be willing to drive for work?

If you were offered an excellent job opportunity but you could not relocate to its location, what is the max distance/time you'd be willing to commute?
Lafayette to Metarie too far?

A SHITLOAD and pay for ALL transportation as well as the car itself.

Really depends on the job. 1-2 hours for something really spectacular (talking like dream job).

I don't think I could do more than 30 minutes.
I am spoiled though and never lived farther than 10-15 minutes from work in my life. Building a new house about 5 minutes from both our offices.

Hell, driving fifteen minutes to LSU's campus felt like too much of a chore most days. Then again, I got paid shite and worked a job that I hated so maybe that had more to do with it.

Lafayette to Metairie? That's a hell of a daily haul man. At w minimum its 2.5 hours on hwy 90. If you go 10 it's less miles but more traffic because of BR. No way I'd want to make that drive daily

It takes me about 30-45 minutes to get home. I like the drive because it gives me a chance to unwind before I get home to the wife and kids

Not 250k but would be a significant increase in pay.

Yeah that's 4 hours of your day in your car 5 days a week AT LEAST.
There are roughly 260 work days a year.
That is 1040 hours a year spent in your car commuting to and from work. That is 43 days wasted doing nothing but sitting in traffic per year.

You'd be giving up 4-5 hours/day on the road....quality of life > money IMO.

Distance isn't really the issue with this commute. It's the fact that you are going to travel across multiple choke points if you take I-10: Atchafalaya bridge, Baton Rouge MS River Bridge, and the Bonnet Carre Spill Way.
Each spot can add 20-30 minutes to a drive due to typical traffic or an accident. If you keep off of I-10 and take Hwy 90 most of the way, you still have problems with Bonnet Carre and 310.

In contrast, a 15 minute commute would be 130 hours per year or just 5.4 days per year in your car commuting.
ETA:
So having a 15 minute commute instead of 2 hour commute saves you almost 40 days a year in time. That needs to be calculated into your salary AND into your quality of life.

The equation is supposed to be: Increase in salary - (increase in hours commuting × 1/2 hourly wage)
