they're going to try and reinvent the wheel and bring in new customers with a unique gaming experience like they did with the Wii
Now look at that chart, though we'd all agree SNES and N64 were GOAT tier they have been trending down since the NES. Except for when they went off the wall with the Wii. Can you blame them?

Notice what I said earlier about price. Wii was cheap. If they want to be different then fine but it needs to be cheap.

I agree, and said the same about affordability.
I'm someone who has owned every Nintendo console AND every Playstation, and since N64/PS1 it's been the same story every time. Nintendo has the better core, reliable unique group of franchises but Sony has better hardware pertaining to 3rd party and a more vast library. I like it that way.

They don't have to be the same but Nintendo better do something to stop that trend

unrelated, im considering getting a wiiU to binge on Zelda. Can anyone tell me why this is a bad idea that doesn't involve
1) the NX coming out sometime in the next 9 months
2) EMUs on a PC

And I think that lies in offering something unique and fun, so unique like the Wii that it becomes a must buy. My only disagreement is with the idea that the solution lies in offering up another similar bland console for triple A titles to be dumped on. I think it's entrenched in everyone's mind at this point that that is what XBox/PS are for, no one will switch to Nintendo just for that.

No it didn't. It actually came out a few days later. Nov 18 2001. Xbox came out Nov 15 2001

“For us, it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content,” explained Reggie Fils-Aime. Rather than devoting time to console power, it seems as though Nintendo is going to angle itself towards an overall better gaming experience. “We’re focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean.”
I'm ok with this thinking......
IF they can make it successful. The Wii and Wii U were such opposites. The Wii was kind of bad as a general console. But it sold like bonkers. The Wii U is far superior, with better games, and offers more unique experiences than the other 2 big consoles....and it failed commercially.
I'm ok with Nintendo being stubborn if they can marry the success of the Wii commercially, with a full featured console/unique experience like the Wii U. It's that simple.
Be stubborn, but be stubborn successfully. I don't know what that means, but they HAVE to entice third parties again, which, to me in my simple understanding, they have to get close in power. They have to be in the realm of porting down AT LEAST. Maybe I don't understand though.

Now competing from an online gaming community standpoint...that's a whole other can of worms.

It was one of my favorite holiday seasons in gaming. Halo, GTA III, MGS 2, Rogue Squadron 2, Max Payne, Munchs Oddysey.

2 years ago after MK8 came out, PS4 and XBone had just been released with a paltry launch library, Wii U was actually competing with and beating them in sales. Their core library was clearly better. Eventually the triple A's came down the pike and not being available on Wii U hurt them but they really screwed up by not having their franchises ready to go. Imagine if they could've put out Zelda, Metroid, another Mario, Pokemon, Star Fox, etc etc within that year. It would've inspired confidence that they could maintain a robust library even within their own franchises. Instead they lagged along, everything was delayed and shelved and it was their own software divisions that failed to expand the library. I'll say for me at least that's been the biggest disappointment in the Wii U, not the lack of third party

75% of the people that bought the Wii played Wii sports for a few months and then hardly touched the thing. It was a neat toy fad that had a few cool games and a crap load of shovel ware. Just because something becomes a fad does not make it a great system or improve the brand for gamers.

How is the Wii U online set up working out? Is it still as bad as it was at launch?

The Wii offered whopping sales to keep them viable and core games to satisfy Nintendo fans. What else can you ask for?
Again, I don't think they can convert your Call ofof Duty playing typical gamers on xBox. That ship has sailed. They have to try the Wii approach again.

I never had a problem with online. I do Mario Maker almost every day. MK8 had online groups here and it worked fine.
I'm not sure what you mean. Are the interfaces still sort of limited and outdated? Yes, but that's Nintendo

This is where I stand with it. Just give us something to be excited for. They rarely do that.

This is some serious fanboy spin here. Who gives a shite how Sony is failing in it's other divisions?
Not to mention also that Nintendo makes the majority of their money off of the DS not the consoles. This is why Nintendo doesn't care to compete with Sony and MS in the console space. Nintendo could not ever make another console and still rake in tons of money off the DS and "Pokemon Eleventy Billion and One - XYZ Color Color Color" or whatever iteration of that stupid shite they are on now.
