For the third night in a row, another response thread.
I am still fighting the 115/150 debate. However, I am now looking at depth finders / GPS / Sonar combos. I like what Lawrance has to offer and the best I can tell, its a GM / Ford debate. Instead, I would like to know what size is best for a 20-24' bay boat?
Lots of boats come with 5" standard. I am thinking 7" would be the minimal size wanted. What say yall? I am looking at the Elite 9, HDS-9, and Hook 9 for what it matters.
BTW, went and climbed all over a Ranger 190 today. VERY nice boat. The fit and finish are much nicer than the Xpress. Both came with a 115 SHO. Same TM. However, the wife likes the layout of the Xpress better. The Ranger did come with hydraulic steering. How necessary is this on a 115?

I like the lowrance HDS b/c Standard mapping chips are by far the best and Lowrance is the only manufacturer that uses them

I had a Lowrance DSI 5 on my H20B and quickly went to an HDI 7. It's like the motor debate. Get as much as you can afford. Obligatory

hydraulic steering. How necessary is this

Just bought a new boat that came with a 7 inch garmin. Had it changed and upgraded to a 9 inch lowrance hds 3 touch screen and couldn't be happier. I have a hds gen 2 5inch in my duck boat and am happy with that as well. I have a legend cartography geaux card in the gen 3 and the standard mapping card in the gen 2. I prefer the standard mapping card bc some places are mislabeled on the geaux card. Overall I am very happy with lowrance.
