If you want to get deep into the word-woods, check out What To Eat in Birmingham.
Warning 1: if you don't like the word foodie, brace yourself -- that the writer's name.
Warning 2: re my first sentence -- she likes to write, with lots! of! enthusiasm!!! Think they're both UAB Doctors, so...
But you will get a ton of color and background about a huge variety of BHM restaurants. And the food write-ups and pix are impressive. Enjoy.

If you're bringing a lady and want to drop a bit of cash you need to take her to Highlands or Bottega. Highlands has been nominated as the best restaurant in America for something like 7 straight years. Bottega is another of Frank Stitts restaurants.
As others have said don't go to "Uptown".
Northside downtown (CBD) has some decent bars/restaurants as some others have mentioned: Collins, Paramount, El Barrio, etc.
My personal favorite restaurant in Birmingham is Wasabi Juans. It is a sushi burrito restaurant in Avondale.
They also just opened a Hattie B's Chicken in Lakeview which people seem to be excited about.

If you're looking for a place to grab a brew, try Hop City. They have over 30 micros on tap along with hundreds of beers and wine for purchase.

Anything activities or sites to see besides a Barons game?

Birmingham is more like a kid-friendly place as far as the big name activities. The Zoo, McWane Science Center, The Vulcan, etc. There are a bunch of local bars with live music. But unless there is a festival going on, not a whole lot else as far as activities. What days are you going to be here?

I'd check out Avondale. In the area: Cahaba Brewery, Fancy's on 5th, Saw's, Avondale Brewing (crawfish food truck out back), Post Office Pies (pizza place).
Agree on Avondale. Also on the same block as Avondale Brew/ Saws/ POP is The Wooden Goat which has pretty good southeast asian fusion. Oh, and Wasabi Juans if you want a sushi burrito, never eaten there before though. And a block away is Rowe's which is a pretty decent restaurant in an old service station. Saturn coffee bar is also across the street and seems like a neat place.
Not far away is Trimtab Brewery, which probably has the other breweries beat in terms of quality.

Don't let anyone refer you to Uptown. It's a little development north of the interstate that, from the little I've seen, is just chain restaurants.
Yea, I agree with this. Its not a bad place, just not worth going to. It seems like it just caters to folks who are going to events at the BJCC.

The Birmingham Museum of Art is one of my favorite Art museums. Probably my favorite in the Southeast

If you are into outdoor activities, check out Oak Mountain State Park. They have cable skiing and paddle boarding, as well as several trails.

Agree with this guy. There isn't much to do in Birmingham, but the obvious things are not too bad. It's a decent city but the whole culture is not a lively one.
As far as food, it is top heavy. The good restaurants are indeed good, but there aren't tons and as per the para above, there isn't much to do so they could get crowded. Most recs I have seen in this thread are good places. The Avondale area is not bad, I haven't spent time there in a few years but this seemed to be the more up and coming area of the city for nightlife.
It's a really pretty town, there just isn't too much to do. But for a few days, you could keep yourself occupied. I know this post isn't the most helpful but maybe will help with what to expect
