But 20 years flat? Pretty much every single habitual armed robbers, rapists, child molesters, manslaughters, attempted murderers, and assault with a deadly weapon guys don't get that much time. Even felons charged with those things don't get that harsh of a sentence.
Just because you had one unfortunate incident shouldn't mean logic should be thrown out the window. I'm not excusing what he did, but the punishment is absurd

ETA: The statute requires a mandatory 10 in certain circumstances. We don't know what his prior sentences were. He might have been given all the leeway in the world and just kept fricking up. Judge was clearly tired of hearing BS excuses.

You can't be serious? If my wife and I were the only people to have had this happen you might have a point.
It happens all the time - we were very lucky b/c there haven't been any major, long term health issues. A lot of people never walk away as you well know. Those guys are ticking time bombs and when they go off they could just hurt themselves or many others too. Either way they have no place in society b/c they are a danger to everyone near a road.

Two wrecks in my family in six months. Drunk driver caused both of 'em.
The attitude in this state is very lackadaisical about drunk driving.

One? fricker has had at the very least 6 of these "unfortunate" incidents, which all happened to be 100% within his own control.
