Not really as a kid, but in high school, I took this health/PE elective class. It was basically like advanced PE and was difficult to get into. The teacher was this really awesome health freak who just loved finding fun ways to stay healthy and active. We had a field trip every week (class was always next to lunch hour so we could do something local and only take up the class time and lunch). We also did one "big" field trip every grading period. Some of the things we did that semester:

-Rock Climbing
-Ropes/Zip Line Course
-Lazer Tag
-Roller Rink to play roller hockey
-and a bunch of other small things like going to local pools, or playing racquetball at the local gym, etc..

Nothing huge, but the whole semester was a blast. She'd spend one day discussing health, and the other days either doing a field trip or something.

In TTown there were youth baseball fields right where the amphitheater used to be. The thing I remember about them is that the tall Wooden train tracks overlooked the fields. When we were younger our fielding got exponentially worse when a train was going by

didn't see the word trip. It's early

Beat me to it. I've seen that a dozen times and still laugh my arse off.

Best field trip I went on was to Ship Island in 7th grade.

Not the best but the one that stands out most to me was a trip to the zoo for Art 3 when I was a junior. A blah trip, nothing special about it, but after we get back on the bus, our teacher very seriously looked at all of us with tears in his eyes and says, " guys I don't know what's going on but there's been several attacks in New York and we don't know what else will happen". Then the driver turns on the radio and the country station here in Jackson was wigging out. Of course this day was September 11. Forever burned into my brain like this.
