You continue to be one the worst posters on this site. Congrats on your achievement!!!

but would he fare as good going against the better (or best) pitchers on the team?
There's only one way to find out.

Perhaps there is another variable here: Don't most teams start on Friday nights (or the first game of a series) with their strongest pitcher? If true, Pap has batted against the best that teams can offer. Has Romero? Romero looks good against the "rest of the staff" but would he fare as good going against the better (or best) pitchers on the team?
Come on dude, Romero is killing Paps SEC numbers.

Yeah I don't any way you can argue that Pap is in Romero's league at the plate. The only thing he's got is his discipline. He does walk quite a bit.

Romero's games against SEC play at Catcher were against Auburn and Missouri. He hasn't gotten any AB (as catcher) against quality arms. He struggled as DH against Vandy.

a mediocre catcher
Here is how I see it:
Hitting
Paps: C-
Romero: A
Fielding
Paps: A-
Romero: B+
Arm
Romero: A
Paps: B+
With all of that added to the mix, Romero is my guy.

The more Catholic High Bears on the field, the better

Its already been established he struggles at DH regardless.

Against that same Mizzou team pap was 0-4
And against A&M and Vandy pap was a compbined 4-18

This can't be stressed enough and is the most overlooked advantage Romero has over Papierski.

Not what I said, at all. I said it was ingrained in me that defense > offense from the catcher position, so I can see why CPM has stuck with Pap. The mediocre comment was regarding my highschool teammates.

This is what I've been saying. Romero is not as good a hitter as his average suggests. CPM has used him in good situations. If he becomes an everyday hitter his average will likely drop. And Pap's will increase for the same reason.

So a player is only good because he sucks.
Never heard that argument before...

Well...when you put it that way...
No, el, what I mean is that Romero, like most hitters, has certain matchup weaknesses. CPM is holding him out of those situations. So when and if he has to face the poorer matchups his average will likely fall.

If hitting 0.324 is bad for who Romero has faced, how terrible must Dawson and Breaux be? Sheesh

Pap went 4-18 against A&M and Vandy. And you think Romero, as the starting catcher, would have batted worse than .222?
Pap was also 0-1 against Houck with 2 BB's btw.
Your arguments are getting worse

ummm no I don't think we realize that. Break it down for us

I wondered in the other thread on this if Romero's past injuries are a concern with being an every day player?

He has said before he does not hit well when at DH. He hits better when he's more involved in the game. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm curious to see his hitting stats when he is behind the plate vs his stats at DH.
Yes, the other thread said something to this effect as well. That he hits better when he's catching.
Bryce Jordan seems to be a very good DH.

Pap has been so bad that when he comes up he's like an automatic out.
I hope he turns it around. I would prefer a guy like Romero who has the ability to put the ball over the fence vs live pitching.. even if they both hit for low average I prefer the guy who produces more RBI's.. but Romero actually hits for high average so he's even more beneficial. He's at least not the easy out like Pap is at this point.
I believe CPM just really values Pap's defense and there may be something about not playing Romero every day from a leg/knee concern? Again though, I admit I have no idea and am just grasping. I know Romero had some surgery down there and at one point wasn't sure he'd ever play competitive baseball again.
