Like misunderstanding that using ones legs to buy more time includes sliding up in the pocket?
Yea, I'm the ignorant one.

Got to love our fans. Everyone hated the option when they ran it under crowton. Now everybody wants the qb to run more.
Well I for one am not talking about the fricking option. Im simply talking about scrambling when plays break down.

quote:This comes with experience and maturity and Brandon Harris is def both this season. He doesn't need Cameron's or Miles' permission to take off and run if the pass isn't there this season. You are a vet now in the SEC, if a play ain't there pass wise take off with the damn ball. Most young guys are scared to deviate from the play called when they are that young. They think they have to execute the play called no matter how well it may be defended by the opponent. Man, use your intuition and god given ability and take off running with the damn ball. They won't get mad if it's for positive yardage and a first down or even better; A touchdown! And if it's for negative yards, well, you are old enough now to tune the bitching out. LOL Let'em bitch! LOL

Well that would be up to the qb to recognize when to tuck and run.

It's really one of the strengths of his game
what?
he isn't exactly shifty...sure he can run, but never saw him as a threat to make anyone miss
i think his scrambling ability needs major work...maybe it was the injury, or maybe it was nerves...i'm hopeful that our offense is able to stretch the field keeping the d honest...otherwise teams are going to continue to stack the box

Hope he does so far he's had poor short range accuracy. In times where he's struggling to complete the short passing game I'd like to see designed runs to be a substitute

Somehow you received 3 downvotes
I think if LSU puts him in position to pass more on early downs, it'll work itself out organically.

No, by trying to come off as some smarmy prick who thinks that LSU is better off with a QB running around like JFF making plays on the fly outside the pocket becuase of some misinformed conception that having a mobile quarterback who can make plays happen with his feet is the only way to win against Bama.

Please quote where I said any of that. I literally said I'd like him to use his legs to buy more time and also go through his reads. Take what the defense gives him. The insanity!
And I wouldn't mind Heisman QB play either. I guess you have to create arguments for others to have a chance to win one.
You need to relax. Enjoy your meltdown.

and why wouldn't they? until harris can show that he will make a defense pay if they crowd the box, teams will absolutely do exactly that. he struggled with short passes and touch last year. hope he has progressed with that but time will tell.

Gotta love when the guy who comes in to respond within 2 minutes accuses you of melting.
So lets back up: you initially said
"I'd rather him do both and use his legs to buy time. If there's an opening, take it."
the problem with your suggestion is that Harris isn't very good at this, example:
LINK
We are much better off having a QB who can step up in the pocket instead of booting out whenever there is an inkling of doubt in his mind. A quarterback's best friend is the pocket. Once you leave it, for no specific reason, you are shrinking the field and will have less protection. It's not easy to go make plays outside the pocket. For Brandon Harris to improve, he must become comfortable in the pocket so that he can get to his second and third reads in the passing game.
All just my very humble opinion, of course ;)
EDIT: yes I am aware the play I linked isn't a play where Harris leaves the pocket due to fear, but I think the clip adequately highlights the point that Harris' decision making isn't there yet. However, he is only a true sophomore and with all offseason to study film , his decision making can only improve (we all collectively hope).

To me, just putting Guice at WR would make defenses think twice and adjust. You don't have to give it to Guice all the time. Just make them adjust and open up the middle. Hand the ball to LF7 or throw to a TE over the middle. Simple adjustments can go a long way. I do feel that we can run some read option or allow Harris to move around in the pocket this year.
The plays he made improvisioning in the middle of the season last year were great to see. He kept his eyes down field while moving outside the pocket and hit Dupree on that long pass. Hopefully we can expect more of that this year.

You posted one play that was like a 5 yard gain and he makes a guy completely miss.

And it was a designed running play too
Great example
There you go again changing people's arguments

quote:Less defenders short side and not dumb. There was a lot wrong with GC option, but not that.
We ran a speed option and many times to the short side of the field, that was the dumb part.

You gotta love fans who don't know the difference between a speed option and a read option.

I agree... The run game would definitely much more dangerous if they added more "Read option" into the scheme. We saw a few plays here and there last season but not consistently
BH never kept the ball , maybe because of the injury but for it to work the qb has to go with the correct read ....
