Building a deck without having gutters?

Thinking about building a wooden deck in the backyard but I don't have gutters installed on the backside of the house. Will I have a problem with the boards being warped or damaged from water falling from the roof directly onto the deck?

You can install a rain diverter on the roof directly above the deck.

why not just install gutters?

I don't think that will have any effect whether the boards warp or not. Some are going to warp no matter what... If you space your joists at 16" and screw the deck boards down properly, you can minimize it.

Granted I'm in OKC and we don't get as much rain as LA, but I have a deck out my back door and no gutters and there is no discernible warping on the drip line.

I built a 20x20 with treated pine piers, joist, and deck boards. I did this, uhhh, about 1.5 years ago and still haven't decided on what to do as a cover. I haven't had any twist, turns, peels, or anything else. Looks as good as the day I put it down.

If the sun is on it it'll warp no matter what. Rain won't really matter as long you use treated wood.

In my experience, if you have a deck without a roof over it, you don't have much.
I built one at my last house for the rear and tore it up three years later, then placed a slab with a roof extension. My current house has a deck n the back that will be removed soon.

I have a 12'x21' all wood deck i built on the back of my house. 12' of the 21' is covered, the other 9' isnt covered and i dont have gutters. So far no problems, but ive just recently added the 9' uncovered, so i guess time will tell.
