Jeep guys I need advice

I am about to get some 315/70/17 duratracs for my 13 JKU. At the moment I don't want to buy an aftermarket bumper and carrier for my spare tire. I've seen conflicting things about whether or not the stock carrier will hold the tire without messing up the rear tailgate, so I'm a little nervous about using it.
My question is would you put the larger tire on the stock carrier, wait to upgrade the spare until I can get the bumper, or would you just wait until you can do the bumper and all tires? I have roadside assistance so if I got a flat I don't think it would be too big of a deal to get it taken care of. Thanks!

From all I've heard it would not go above and 33 inch tire on stock carrier. Idk how long it will last with a 35+ but my suggestion is to hold out and upgrade that part first.

I would not mount that size tire on the stock carrier with stock hinge. I have 305/70/17 and I have the Teraflex HD hinge and carrier. I also don't like bumper carriers as they seem to start rattling over time. If you wanted a cheaper version of the Teraflex you could go with Rugged Ridge or Tactik

i use the terraflex tire carrier. Wouldn't trust the stock carrier over time

You can go a couple months with a 35 on the stock hinge but it will rattle badly. If you need that time to put aside a few extra cash, I'd say you're ok, but don't plan on it being a long term situation. The HD hinges are cheaper than the bumper plus carrier and as long as you go with a quality brand they are very capable of supporting the tire.

Wait and get a good carrier. In the meantime, use all that space in the back of your van to lay the spare in.

Tire on factory wheels won't work on spare tire carrier or jeep at least mine didn't without spacers. I never did a 5 tire rotation so I just kept the factory spare on the back unless you are going to rotate all 5 it is pretty much a waste of money. I had to use 2.5" spacers to clear with my factory wheels, I also had a 3" BDS lift.

Ok I think I'm gonna keep it off the carrier. I got spidertrax 1.5" spacers so the wheels should work with the tires from everything I've read. Thanks for the advice though, it seems like it isn't worth it to use the stock carrier with the oversized tire.
