This makeshift bedroom, which its owner prefers to call a pod, is no larger than a wide bookshelf and inconspicuously stationed at one corner of an apartment living room in the Sunset District neighborhood. Its exterior resembles a large crate, while its inside houses a twin bed, a fold-up desk and some LEDs.

At 8 feet long and 4.5 feet tall, the wooden box requires Peter Berkowitz to duck to get inside, but he assured The Post in a phone interview Monday night that his new home is “honestly very comfortable.”

“I really don’t feel like I’ve taken a hit in terms of my quality of life,” said Berkowitz, 25. “I don’t really notice I live in the pod anymore.”

I wonder if his friend tells him to get in his kennel when he's being annoying when company is over.

You backwater people obviously don't know how awesome it is to live in the Bay Area.

Some French doors would really open the place up

I think these stories always fail to mention that the minimum wage in SF is nearly $15 an hour. People scrapping by and budgeting can afford to live in something other than a box in the Bay Area

Being in San Francisco, I expected the interior to be more decorated, along with the exterior

It looks like they made it out of scraps from a job site.

I would go to Popeye's for two weeks straight for Lunch and Dinner and eat only Red Beans & Rice.

They would know I was in the house.

He anticipates living in the box for “the foreseeable future.” If he ends up building another pod, though, he plans on making it at least as tall as he is.

Not a horrible deal if he actually gets along with his roommates and he spends most of his time outside the apartment. I wouldn't do it, but then again, I'm not a poor.

Agree. It's an awesome place to visit. Maybe the best in the lower 48.

Given the cost of living, it wouldn't make my top 10 if I were single. Because of the tech-heavy economy, single dudes outnumber chicks like 10 to 1 in silicon valley/bay area.

It's probably worth it if you play for the other team though.
