The Louisiana black bear will formally be removed from the national endangered species list Thursday in a ceremony to be attended by U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

As a result of intensive work from the department, including restocking and tracking, Louisiana's black bear population has climbed back from as few as 80 animals in a slice of the forested delta decades ago. Researchers say Louisiana's population today may number as many as 1,000 bears.
Great news for Black Bear enthusiasts in the state.

Still, hunters aren't likely to get a crack at the animals any time soon. Randy Myers, head of the department's Wildlife Division, said there will certainly be no black-bear season in 2016.

Wonder if the gubment gave each black bear a check to support its children in the process.

I've driven all over the state and have spent hundreds maybe thousands of hours of remote camping but have never seen one. Are they mostly in north La?

I've only ever seen one in my life. Was on a friend's property in Franklin probably 10 years ago or so.
They have a bunch of bear crossing signs in Patterson, so I assume there's some down there.

I've seen a couple on the way down to Cypremore Point. First time my buddy and I saw the "Black Bear Crossing" sign and I mentioned to him that I've seen those signs all over down here, but never have seen one. Right then one shot out a few feet in front of his truck and stopped in the middle of the road ti give us a s'up look and then shot out to the other side. I know csb.

Nuisance animal in northeast Louisiana. Absolutely ruins your deer hunt. Kill em all. They break into your camp, get into your trash, tear your deer stands up, eat your fawn deer............ Yep, they're wonderful animals.

I think a native species is more important than your deer camp bro.
