There is firebreaks but that thing is so damn old and so remote that who knows if they will work as designed. A typical firebreak I believe is 500 feet apart. My guess is that at least one 500 ft section is shot.
They need to just rip it out and start over. That bridge is a disaster. Way past functional standards.

Took this picture from the Hwy 90 bridge over Bayou des Allemands on the way to Houma. That thing is putting out a ton of smoke.
