I started at LSU in Fall 2004. Tuition was $2,110 for residents.
ETA: Holy shite. Just looked up Spring 2016 tuition at LSU. $3,770. Roughly 78% higher than when I started. Ouch.
There is some interesting information below:

Excellent info. I think its long overdue that a serious chat with universities regarding runaway costs.

like many economists have stated in the past, the prices of these institutions and many other businnesses will go down eventually. they aren't sustainable we are seeing the start of a correction in the stock market, the universities will eventually have to layoff mass herds of employees. And then iwillgoback to school and use up my two years of eligibility.

$18,000 - don't remember the exact number but remember my mom showing me the receipt and that I better not frick up.
That was after several thousand dollars in scholarships as well.

That's weird. In fall of '86 it was around $863. Hard to believe it would double that quickly,

Army picked up my tab and gave me a little extra. Paid me to get good grades.

Tuition (flat rate) was just over $13000 per semester in 2001. Room and board was $4500. Sticker was just over $35K for the year. It was $45 when I graduated four years later.
Tuition for 2016-2017 will be about 23800 per semester. Not sure about room and board.

That link says kids were paying about $266 of fees (aka after TOPS) PER YEAR for 1998-1999. People on here recently said today it is about $1,400 after TOPS... PER SEMESTER. Fees (not covered by TOPS) in 1998 were $266 per year and today it is about $2,800.
