I question those numbers from that link, it's also from 2006.

Louisiana actually passed a medical marijuana initiative in 2015, but it's severely limited in scope. I doubt we'll see recreational anytime soon, because all ballot initiatives in Louisiana have to originate from the legislature. I have little doubt that if Louisiana allowed signature driven ballot initiatives, it would pass pretty easily.

marijuana is the #1 cash crop in Kentucky, and Tennessee

Florida not the south

Louisiana has a budget problem. A start to fixing it will be legalized marijuana.

Yup - and it could be done in the upcoming session. No way this state would do something that would make sense though.

This.
Don't remember where, but i read NC will be one of the last states in the union to legalize. I found the article Googling "when will marijuana be legal in NC". And i thought to myself, "Darn it."

Kentucky. I read an article one time saying that if Kentucky were to legalize they would be the richest state.
Put down the bong. That was a line from Justified.

It will be Georgia. They are already moving to make all marijuana arrests misdemeanors. Atlanta makes the rest of the state a little more progressive and they are facing their own state funding problems. Property taxes are already high there and their gas tax is high as well. We d will be a new revenue source.
Florida won't go as fast. Too many blue hairs there that will vote at every opportunity.

I don't think it will be Florida. They don't even have a medical initiative yet, and a ballot initiative there requires a 60% super-majority. However, a medical initiative will be on the Florida ballot this year.
We almost got it when the casino douche put $20 million in ads against it last election round. But they have since decriminalized possession in some major precincts. It's going to happen in November in FL. Once you get medical, coupled with decriminalized possession, then it's pretty much completely legalized.

The sherif's association here in Louisiana only recently supported a very limited medical marijuana bill here because the daughter of one of the higher ups had cancer and fought for MMJ for pain control. The bill is named after her. Funny how these things work.
The disgusting thug rat bastard sheriffs and DAs rule the legislature, and they'd literally prefer epileptic and cancer kids to suffer before making weed accessible. Considering this is a barbaric asinine stance, for publicity sake they OK'd a worthless bill that allows limited medicinal use but only with a doctor prescription. Which requires a doctor to break federal law. And there are still no pharmacies that sell it. So it's a worthless law but now Louisiana politicians can claim they have compassion and most people don't realize what they really did.
If I had the ability, I'd curse every single one of those human shaped sacks of dogshit with intractable seizures.

LA has gone their own way on a lot of things, it's a shame they won't on this.
It took a lot of effort recently just to get the legislature to REDUCE the jail sentences for possession. Any talk of legalization is at least a decade away. Some really worthless old people have to die first.
A state congressman filed a bill last year that would've let the people vote on legalization. Imagine that, the citizenry deciding. It didn't make it out of committee. Politicians were scared shitless at the thought of letting the people decide. These are deeply conservative "leaders" who supposedly value shite like limited government and freedom yada yada
