I wonder why there are different performance issues with the app. Currently, while I'm still on the cord, when I watch games through the app via AppleTV Gen 1, I have no streaming issues at all.

Yeah no idea either. I have had some buffering with Vader recently. Probably due to my cell connection though. Some on the Roku as well. I had to use a nbastreams link to watch on my phone last night. That's probably due to being straight talk though and being prioritized down.

I've had DirecTV Now service for the past week and been fairly pleased with it.

So I called DirecTV to cancel my satellite service yesterday. The rep (who sounded like she was high) offered me three months of DirecTV Now service and a discount of the live a little plan down to $20/month or just right plan down to $35/month for an indefinite period of time. She indicated it didn't have an expiration date on the discount.

I take it this was a good deal?

Ok, i'm seriously debating cutting the cord.

Looks like sony vue has every channel the OL watches. And i can download the TVG app to watch horse racing(i would lose tvg and tvg2)

Have some questions:

1. What is best device to use? roku? fire stick,etc?

2. Do any allow dvr'ing, on a cloud, so you can tape and watch later, this is a huge sticking point with the OL.

3. If i would buy 3 roku's for the tv's, would i get the service on all 3 for the 1 price?

4. Do fire sticks get wild feeds like you can get for roku?

Gotta cut this $110 satellite bill, other than the dvr'ing, it just isn't worth it. I never watch it in my room, and bedroom is watched 5/8 hours a week, if that.

The watch espn app is trash.

Viewing on YouTube TV has presented no problems at all.

PS Vue was very solid for me when we had it. I have DirecTV Now because they had a promotion to get a free Apple TV. DTV Now has also be very good.

1. To me the Firestick is the best bang for your buck. AppleTV is great but pricey (which is why I went for the promotion).

2. PS Vue and DTV Now are the only streaming services that I know of that have a DVR function.

3. Yes you would. Each service has different limitations on how many simultaneous streams you can have. Standard for DTV Now is 2 (can purchase additional for $5/mo). I can’t remember PS Vue but I think it’s more (3 or 4?).

4. Not sure what that means.

Food for thought, I have noticed that the streaming services seem to work better on some devices than others. During high traffic times (football games and new GoT episodes) the stream on my firestick would buffer a lot but when I swapped to ATV, it would run pretty smoothly.

You can also look into setting up a Plex server with an OTA antenna to DVR local channels. I’m just starting this and waiting to convert the many movies I bought from iTunes so I can watch them all on my different devices. It’s pretty easy!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, but from browsing through the posts in this thread it seems like you won't save much money in the grand scheme of things by cutting the cord and subscribing to streaming services (maybe about $30-$40/month at most) People are also complaining of buffering issues during high demand stream times. I'm tired of paying for cable too, but when I sit down and watch my sporting events on tv, I don't want to experience any issues. So, I'm still conflicted on which way to go.

I think it depends on what you are paying for your cable service. I called AT@T yesterday to cancel my cable because I was going to switch to YoutubeTV. My bill had just recently gone up to $220/month.

I wanted to keep AT@T internet, but that was still going to run me $80/month once I cancelled the cable. AT@T offered me cable and internet for $130/month for 12 months not to cancel.

I might have saved $10/ month to switch to YoutubeTV, but IMO the extra amount is worth the convience of cable. As long as you aren't paying an outrageous amount for cable, you won't save much money by switching to the streaming services.

Lol. I stopped using torrents once they started making quality streaming services. But with the way they've been fricking everything up lately, it makes you want to return to pirating. I'm still a power user at a couple private torrent sites. So I'll probably hang on to those accounts, just in case.

I've been over there for 12+ years. If I didn't have a couple extra tbs of credit, I would almost never use it. But it's insane how fast they have it available after a show airs.
