How do I update my android box?

I can't be of much help here because all I did was follow this video. It worked for me and I'm not particularly Kodi-savvy at all. Good luck.

youtube video by Electrical MD on Kodi 18

Again, if anyone knows how I can add Closed Captioning to this I'd really appreciate it. I'm getting lots of great shows but I have lousy hearing so I don't know what's going on half the time.

What kind of box is it? Should be able to update it from within the build.

And I don't think it's possible to get subtitles on a stream. You need the file or the source to do that. Unless someone else knows something I don't.

Finally broke down and added Real Debrid....Gamechanger! Paid $19 for six months and has vastly improved my experience using Kodi.

Exactly. Kodi just doesn't ever work correctly and is always a pain in the arse without a debrid subscription. I really have no idea why people are so opposed to paying $3 a month for absolute perfect streams that play instantly with zero buffering.

It is absolutely possible and it has nothing to do with the box or even build(using a build is just a dumb idea anyway). You can enable them in individual apps settings or in the Kodi system settings, just google how to do that, and then if a stream has them softcoded it will play them.

You have to enable subtitles in the particular add-on such as covenant, Neptune rising, etc.

I'm all for paying for real debrid. What addons are you using to get those results? I did a 1 day free trial but didn't see any improvement but that was a LONG time ago. I'm getting back into getting kodi working again along with vader streams and whichever is good for the rest.

Legacy worked for like a week. Now not sure what to install.

I've been using the Durex build recommended by Troypoint.com and it's been rock solid. Just have to find out where in Durex to put the Real Debrid login once I pull the trigger on the trial.

ETA - Just did 15 day RD trial. Fired up Black Panther immediately since it's likely to be one of the highest in demand. 1080p streams didn't work and it dropped down to a 720 one, but I have it running in the next room and it's flawless without any hiccups, so far.

I’m currently comparing options and I would like to know how much everyone is saving with cord cutting and if it is worth what you’re giving up.

I currently have Uverse tv and internet and my bill is currently

$120 for cable, dvr, boxes, etc (including HBO)
$30 for internet (not fiber)

I get unlimited data usage because I still have a cable account and as long as you have cable ATT doesn’t cap your data usage.

Shopping all the options (Sling, Direct TV Now, YouTube TV, Hulu, and PS Vue) I think PS Vue appears to be the best combo of channels, DVR, multi room access, and price.

I would do the Core Plan + HBO with PS Vue which comes out to $44.99 for Core plus $15 for HBO for basically $60 per month for cable.

So compare that to my ATT bill there is $60 savings when just comparing cable.

However I haven’t shopped a la carte internet yet, but I am assuming it will be more than $30 per month and I will have a capped data limit, so that will cut into my $60 per month savings.

So best case I’m saving $30-40 per month?

What the hell am I doing wrong? I was expecting triple digit savings the way everyone is talking about it.

I pay $100 for comcast internet blast tier which is like 110 down. I had been using kodi addons to scrap for anything I wanted to watch for free. Just discovered Vaders streams which starts at $15/mth with discounts for more mths you buy in advance. It's been a lot better streaming their live tv along with any tv series or movie I want via their video on demand.

One of our biggest incentives for cord cutting is not having to watch the crappy commercials. You get pretty creative finding ways to catch streams of sporting events. However it's not perfect in the least. You have to be patient. We only have att dsl and comcast here so our prices are high with comcast being the only option for speed.

Depends a lot on your internet plan. Mine is 75/month for 500 down. The people that are saving lots are using illegal streams. Vaders is 15/month compared to your 60. That's a huge chunk of change. Just depends on how comfortable you are in using a service like that.

I cut the cord a long time ago. I have been with Xbmc since before Camelot. Back then, you had to know how to do it all. Now, everybody uses everybody else's work and makes a simple build.

It has been the worst for Kodi. Everything gets taken down and no consistency unless you know how to do it on your own. ??

I knew it was on the down side when I saw boxes being sold in a mall and the people were advertising free cable tv and movies.... "in theaters now". It was great seeing a person making money off of my work.

Now with YouTube, slingtv, etc etc... it's easy to cut the cord. Kodi, with the right add-ons, built by people and kept closed off, is great.

Way before my time. I'm still learning it. I don't see why I need Kodi though. I just download whatever movies I'm interested in and play them through Plex. Seems to me getting into and maintaining Kodi is a giant pain in the arse compared to downloading a movie and just using Perfect Player or something similar to stream IPTV.

Kodi is so much more than a watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it.

It was truly the best Media system. You could have your complete library of movies with the art work. It automatically download when avaible in the quality that you wanted. (Going old school with couch potato and newz). Before the movie played, you could set it up to do the movie theater experience... the trivia...etc.

Your tv library via context menu would play one after the other... none stop.

Having a party ... your music library would play a light show. Etc etc...

Live tv.... had its own epg.

Seriously... way more than just a streaming tool.

I hear ya. I know it can do so many things. I just don't think I need to do all those things. The simpler the better for me. I don't want to do all the work required to set it up.

And a TV that either has the app or get a nVidia Shield as I'm planning to do. My old dumb TV can't do it.

If I cut the cord, and go to YouTube TV, does anyone know if my internet provider (xfinity) sign-in will work on the ESPN app through Apple TV? ( as you know, you have to provide a cable service log-in)

Or do I just piggyback on my brother-in-law's account?

It should accept your YouTube service.

Hopefully the youtube espn channel link is much better at streaming than the espn link. I was a sling subscriber trying to use the espn streaming (off espn's site) and it's very hit or miss with at least 10 different drops during each game where it would freeze up at the worst time. You could always count on commercials playing perfectly though. ALWAYS.

I was going to try Youtube's service to see if they used the same stream but went a more cost effective route with iptv. So far, it's been much better than what I experienced with sling and espn's site.
