Is Spurrier really the right guy?

This is all with the assumption that Miles is leaving.
I think Spurrier is a great coach and could probably do wonders here, but you have to wonder about how much longer he'll be coaching. He's 62 now and next year he'll be entering his 30th year in coaching.

If he gets a good DC.....unreal

I think you could get about 5 good years out of him. He is in descent shape and if he hires the proper staff his name will recruit.

it'd be like hiring bobby bowden 5 years ago.
Spurrier's still living off of his great seasons in the 90's.
We're about 10 years late on this one.

Nope. One of the things that Spurrier grew tired of when he was at Florida was recruiting. When Zook arrived there the talent wasn't as deep as it had been and Zook paid the price while Meyer reaped from Zook helping to fill the cupboard back up.
Spurrier will not come here and we do not need to go after someone that only wants to coach for 3 years.

Spurrier would be here for 7 years.

I don't think we can offer him a good enough golf membership to persuade him here.

i just don't think his heart is in it anymore. sure, he would keep coaching a few more years but not with the intensity to push our teams to the top, imo.

no no no. He is having problems at SC that have little to do with getting "talent"
Posted on 11/25/07 at 11:08 pm to ZeeDustin
he would be a great candidate, but he won't a HC long at LSU.

los angeles tiger you are dead wrong.
Spurrier wants the LSU job and if offered, he will take it.
Mark Schlabach, a veteran sportswriter with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and co-host of a regional sports talk show called Talkin' Football, said last night:
"South Carolina fans, if Les Miles leaves LSU you should be very, very worried. The ol' ball coach hates losing and he sees a golden opportunity to coach one of the nation's best programs at LSU."
His co-hosts on the program all shook their head in agreement.

Wonder if he will get to keep his membership at Augusta National??

He had the #6 recruiting class in the nation last year. That doesn't seem to me like he's lost his talent to recruit

Who has been at LSU for a long time?
I believe Spurrier would be here for at least 6-7 years and I'll guarantee one thing, he will not leave LSU to coach at any other school.
Name one other coach you would like to have who you can guarantee will not leave LSU as soon as his "dream job" came open.

Maybe we could buy him a privat jet to get him back and forth.

I'd rather someone who runs a spread-option attack.

We need a longterm solution at head coach. Spurrier doesn't fit that mold at all.
