University at Buffalo Athletics Director Warde Manuel has granted permission to Nebraska to speak with football coach Turner Gill, the Buffalo News has learned. The Cornhuskers have an opening for a head football coach.
Manuel spoke with Nebraska interim Athletics Director Tom Osborne on Sunday, although Osborne didn't indicate when he wanted to interview Gill. Gill, who played and coached at Nebraska, is in his second season at UB.
"I'm happy for Turner and his family about getting the opportunity to talk to Nebraska," Manuel said. "He's worked extremely hard and deserves this opportunity."
Also, the Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star is reporting that LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini is set to interview with Nebraska officials, although it is unclear when or where the interview will take place.
For more information on UB football, read Monday's Buffalo News sports section.

Not to be mean, but he is the 'minority' candidate...

that shouldn't mean anything. they should hire the best coach for the job, regardless of race.
if Gill is the best fit, then hire him
if Pelini is the best fit, hire him
if Gill is the best fit, then hire him
if Pelini is the best fit, hire him

I agree.
But tell Jessie Jackson that.

I think Gill is a serious candidate.

I bet Bama wished they would have taken Croom seriously when they interviewed him.

Turner Gill has a 5-7 record at Buffalo. Neb just fired their coach for going 5-7 in the Big 12 North. Pellini is a done deal if these are the only two interviewing for the job.
