Wow. This movie was fantastic. Brie Larson was unreal. I'd only ever seen her in 21 Jump Street. The kid was also great. Very powerful and even exhausting movie. Maybe the movie of the year. It will take a while until I am ready to see it again though.

Completely agree. Great performances all around. How the kid was not nominated for a Globe or Oscar blows my mind. He was amazing.
Have it right behind Spotlight this year but they are damn close.

That and Inside Out were the best movies of the year. Did you recognize Johnny?

Holy frick man, I just read the plot review and it made me wanna cry.
How do people enjoy shite like this that makes you miserable, isn't there enough sadness in the world without diving into it in your leisure time as well.

It's definitely not a popcorn flick. But it's art. Beautiful art. I left the theater appreciating all of my loved ones even more, and really just appreciating life more.
True art moves us.

I did not leave that movie feeling sadness. Much more moved than sad.
Now the movie itself was an emotional roller coaster. You feel discomfort, you feel joy, you feel sadness; you feel optimism and anger and hope. This movie more than any I've seen in awhile really tugs at your emotions and pushes you in a lot of directions. But by the time the credits role and the lights come back on, you walk away feeling truly and genuinely moved.
It's a movie that stuck with me long after leaving the theater. It really is more a piece of art than one of entertainment.
Highly recommended if that's what you're looking for. Definitely not a popcorn flick though

Completely agree with this. Not knocking Larson because she deserved a nod as well but he 100% carried the movie for me.
His performance gives the movie the moving, ultimately uplifting feeling the previous poster was talking about. The escape attempt had me holding my breath and fighting back tears because I so desperately needed that kid to make it to safety. The entire theater was sniffling or outright sobbing at the end of that scene when I saw it.
The movie would have felt much more dark and pessimistic if her character had been the protagonist imo, just because Room was a different place to her than it was for him.
I suppose the viewer can watch it from either perspective depending on their own nature, glass half full or half empty, although he is the narrator and his inner monologue ultimately paints the tone. He is also in every scene if I'm not mistaken, while Larson isn't in a few.
I honestly think this will be remembered as one of the best child performances in film and really wish he would have gotten a nomination, at least.

Best movie I've watched all year. I can't even describe the emotions I felt. Been stuck to my 6 yr old like a glue all day. Wow is all I'm going to say.

It was my favorite movie of the year. Incredible film; one of my all-time Top 10 favorites.
Once in a while there's a film that affects you all the way to the core and leaves a lasting impression/impact... for me, this was one of those films. Perhaps because I have a son around that age.

Bump
Watched this last night. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend checking it out.
The truck scene was one of the more suspenseful scenes I've ever seen on film.
Movie is even more powerful to know that these exact scenarios happen way too frequently in this country.
