I'm confused about his intentions, does he want to fight the fdb crew or crush our hands or just be cordial? It was a rather passive aggressive statement.

"Ruzil" Did you grow up in Hammond or go to school there in the mid 80s? That was during my time in Hammond, just curious.
Graduated from SLU in 1986. Five and one half years of pure bliss! Spent most of my time between the Biology Building, The Brown Door and the Sting.

Old school... I had a professor that talked about the place

The Sting, Razzie's, Beach Club and about a half dozen other names over the years. Right by Magnolia (Maggot) Inn.

The Sting
On Thomas Street right before it splits into two one way streets. I had a friend, I'll call him Johnny O, that got drunk on too many Long Island Ice Tea's and drove his car through the barber shop next door.
His roommate gave him so much shite about it and then a few weeks later, the roommate , again drunk, forgot to turn while driving on Thomas and drove into the back of the Magnolia Inn.
Good times!

Hell, I was in school there in the mid 90's and I learned to like this place once I outgrew the cheesy dance club places. Good times for sure.

alright went to the iron horse sports bar today.
comparing this with blackened brew is probably unfair because they have nothing in common except that they are both well done inside
iron horse is much more spacious, lots of tvs and a giant sports ticker across the space. Big bar but not much behind it, the beer selection is poor. Mostly domestic bottles and just a half dozen taps. The beer menu at BB is light years better.
the food however is a slam dunk. Typical sports bar fare but excellent. We had a duck quesadilla with mango salsa, dozen wings and a Cuban sandwich. The wings were very good, right in my wheelhouse (naked, not smothered in sauce). 9/10 on the wings. Sandwich was really good, quesadilla was tasty. Again, Sysco fries
[fries rant] it's not much harder to do fresh cut fries. cut, rinse, dry, blanch. When ordered, drop it in hot oil. Yes it's more trouble than a frozen bag but the results are 10x better and you can charge more [end fry rant]
Bill was 75 bucks compared to 100 at BB ( generous tip both times). I had 3x 22oz goose island and the lady had 2 12oz Abitas.
we ate the bar both places, service was excellent both places however the owner at iron horse came over and hung with us for a while which was cool. The owner at BB was sitting right next to us the whole time, never said a word.
if nothing changes with the menu at either place, go to blackened brew to drink and iron horse to eat. If iron horse steps up the beer selection, game over

Excellent review, I'll get around to both of them this week probably. I'm off all week so I have time to waste.

Nice, going to try both next weekend.

Ate at BB for the first time Saturday night. The place was packed, but we were seated within 15 min. Great beer menu though it will be hard to maintain as they had out of stock items already. Beermenus.com is too easy to waste print budget. The meatballs were great and the OMG was awesome as well. Great experience.

A little after you, 88. Remember the brown door and the Sting quite well. I get back to area 3 or 4 times a year but very seldom go into downtown Hammond. I'll have to try one of these places on my next trip.

Where is Iron Horse in relation to Cate Street Seafood? I can't find anything about it online
