groundbreaking today
Mayor Kip Holden and city-parish officials will kick off a $19 million project to improve O’Neal Lane at a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday. The project, as part of the Green Light Plan, will include adding two through lanes from South Harrell’s Ferry Road to George O’Neal Road, developing a raised median and sidewalks along both sides of O’Neal Lane, and making curb and gutter drainage improvements. The groundbreaking will take place at Temple Baptist Church, 3650 O’Neal Lane, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Based on how the Harrells Ferry to I12 phase went, i assume this will be done in 2030

What's the point. That area is going to be nothing but walkers in 10 years anyway.

Living in DFW for almost 7 years now, these people know how to do road construction. That is one thing I don't miss about Louisiana.

Kip has to make it easier to get to St Jean Apartments. I.e. sidewalks and gutters so the sidewalk doesn't flood.
Also, this is a waste of 19 mil.

The biggest challenges for that one was the intersection and utilities. I see this done in a few years.

If only BR had the same soil type as the DFW area.

That area
As someone who grew up in southeast BR, it is sad to see what his happening to the area. It all started in 1992 when they built St. Jean apartments. Who else remembers the Jay's Donuts guy trying to fight it? God bless that man. He fought the good fight.

It's like they picked they area of least need and said, yeah, if they thought a new library downtown was dumb, wait till they see where we'll waste money next!

If you check the traffic counts of that stretch of road, it's not ridiculous to want to widen it.

Will it be four lanes? If so, it will make for an alternate route to get to I12 from south BR (Highland , Perkins & Picou area).
