Exhibit A...maybe the best horror film of all-time...
The Changeling... LINK
But nobody watches it and nobody cares...and you miss out.
Slacker - by Linklater
Barcelona - by Stillman
And one movie I'm surprised never got that much pub was...Bitter Moon by Polanksi (I think this was the period when he was a pariah - and noboy paid attention to his French movies.)
Kristin Scott Thomas, Peter Coyote, Hugh Grant and Emanuelle Seinger.
It's not a great all-time movie, but it's one of the best movies of the 90's...it's interesting.

Best in show. Tried to get my wife to watch it and give it a chance, but she just thought it was weird and didn't get the humor

"Hot Fuzz" is really the best of the Cornetto Trilogy.
"Wag the Dog" was the best political satire movie of the 90's and one of the best ever.
"Head of State" is the best political satire movie of all time.
"Prince of Persia" is criminally under-appreciated as an action-comedy, and is probably the best movie based on a video game ever made.
"Just Friends" is the GOAT Christmas movie, not Diehard.
"Last Action Hero" is the best action movie of its decade, Arnold Schwarzenegger's best movie and acting performance, and is the first great "meta" comedy.
"The Hunchback of Notre Dame" may be the best animated Disney movie of all time.

The Social Network.
Critically acclaimed, yes. But not generally recognized as one of the defining movies of our time. Which it is.

Great choice.
I'd add The Station Agent, Calvary, Balto, Signs, Moon and Enemy

For me, it's Mouse Hunt. I know people might think it's just plain crap but, I thought it wasn't as bad a movie as people made it out to be.
It's the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater, so I have great memories of it.

The Coen Bros. remake of The Ladykillers turned up on Netflix recently. Really entertaining movie that's unfairly maligned. Tom Hanks really goes out on a limb here, and it's hilarious.

This is a long list,; I've got a lot of opinions and some might stink.
Prisoners- Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhal star in this dark, noir-ish mystery thriller with a slow burn and a very exciting finish. Most people haven't even heard of it it seems.
Enemy- Also with Gyllenhal and Villaneuve, who directed both Prisoners and more recently Sicario. Very good, low key movie with really creepy feel. The ending might turn a large percentage of the people who watch it off, and I didn't exactly "get it" myself, but a fantastic movie nonetheless.
American Beauty- like another poster said about The Social Network, this movie wasn't/isn't underrated by critics by any means, but it seems to have been forgotten by most and is mostly remembered for the rosy dream sequences. It is a fantastic movie, one of my favorites ever for sure. Spacey absolutely kills his performance and the story is great.
Big Fish- what a great, happy movie.
The Other Guys- Will Ferrel, in probably his last hilarious role to date, and Mark Wahlburg. Veyr funny movie, but I've only met a handful of people who are even aware of its existence.
Pain and Gain- this movie seems ridiculous, and even more so when it was released. Michael Bay, The Rock, Mark Wahlburg, and Tony Shaloub all came together to make one of the best dark comedies to come out in recent years. But again, Bay + jacked dudes + Miami probably give the very impression of this movie which it seeks to satirize.
Big Trouble in Little China- this movie should be required watching for high schoolers. Such a kickass movie.
Training Day- Is this underrated? I'm not even sure, but it is definitely my favorite Denzel role and has such a tight, exciting screenplay.
Predestination- came out last year and redboxed it at a friend's house. Never heard about it before and rarely hear anything about it now, but it's a very good, low-budget sci-fi thriller starring Ethan Hawke. Would recommend.
John Dies at the End- this movie, based on a noverl by a comedy writer for Cracked.com, was easily the most surprising movie I watched in the past year. I had no idea what it was about, but it has pretty much everything in it- sci-fi, fantasy, action, horror, adventure, and weaved throughout all of it, mainly comedy. When I saw it I compared it to Big Trouble in Little China- a great comedy that is a legitimately good action movie.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil- I watched John Dies at the End and this back-to-back and it was a great double feature. This movie basically turns the whole "campers run from crazed, mutant hillbillies" trope completely on its head. Very funny movie and the two leads are hilarious.
3:10 to Yuma- The best western to come out in a while, better than Django and Hateful 8 imo. Star-studded cast with Russel Crowe and Christian Bale in the lead roles. It isn't overrated on this board, but really it came and went and has been forgotten at large.
Smokin Aces- This movie is like if a 13 year old was given a huge budget and a very rough outline for where the producers wanted a movie to go. And it was awesome. Just a lot of fun and has a lot of laughs to go along with kickass action.
Lucky Number Slevin- see Smokin Aces.
Inside Llewyn Davis- this Coen Bros movie came and went, and it seemed like no one really took notice. It introduced me to Oscar Isaac as a legit actor and Justin Timberlake kills his role. It has a lot fo great folk music and the plot is very weird, very "circular"- anyone who has seen it will understand what I mean.
The Ghost in the Darkness- this movie is based on the account of an engineer who is paid to finish a section of railroad in Africa; problems arise when he learns of a lion (or two) who has been reigning terror on the workers for a while. Val Kilmer stars as a badass engineer who doesn't take shite from large felines.
The Thief and the Cobbler- this animated movie is amazing. I think it came out around the same time as Aladdin and got completely eclipsed by the Disney machine. It is one fo the best animated works I've ever seen- just be careful because there are two versions out there. One version is how the creator intended it to be seen, I'm pretty sure you can watch it on Youtube. The other is a more "disneyfied" version, with song and dance numbers and additional dialogue and whole, unecessary scenes added.
Alpha Dog- This is the first time I thought Timberlake was a legit superstar, always liked his music but really liked him in this. It's a really good movie but most people probably just remember it as a JT vehicle. There's another movie based off the real life events of this movie, but I don't recall it's name.
The Way, Way Back- great coming-of-age dramedy that came out a couple of years ago. I usually don't go for these types of movies, but they nailed this one. Also, Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell can do no wrong.
Reign of Fire- this movie is 100% fun and has a great cast. It's certainly not a masterpiece, but I'm always in the mood for a watch.
The Eagle- I've never heard anyone talk about this movie. It has Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, and Donald Sutherland and about a Roman legion beset by hostiles on all sides while on a mission in ancient Britain.
The Island- how is this movie not considered a classic? It's just a great movie that has been forgotten. Still watch it at least once a year.
Minority Report- I think this came out shortly before Cruise went crazy and his subsequent Recruiseasance, but Minority Report has a great story and is a sci-fi classic.
Prisoners- Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhal star in this dark, noir-ish mystery thriller with a slow burn and a very exciting finish. Most people haven't even heard of it it seems.
