I think this is the perfect time for Frank Wilson to leave

Obviously it would be ideal if we never lost him, but we know that isn't and never has been realistic. This is why I think it's an ideal time for LSU.
1)Our recruiting class appears pretty well locked in for 2016. I don't think any of the guys waivering, like Fowler, will be affected by Wilson leaving. I don't think we lose anyone from the class or miss out on remaining prospects strictly because of Wilson. Maybe Fulton, but that hasn't looked extremely well even before he left. Maybe I'm too optimistic. Plus, it give us plenty of time for the 2017 recruits.
2) We have an elite recruiter in Orgeron primed to step into the Recruiting Coordinator role. Not often can a school lose someone like Wilson in that role, and have a replacement who can pick things up right where they were left with little to no drop off.
3) We knew Wilson wanted to be a head coach and he was leaving sooner or later. Because of points 1&2 this seems like a good time, and hopefully he is a huge success. Down the road when Miles retires or we need a new head coach, Wilson could be that guy if he climbs the ranks some. It would be nice to have an up and coming star head coach (if Wilson can be that- and I think he can) which LSU would have the inside track on.

All pretty good points. I hate to see him go but honestly I'm surprised we kept him as long as we did. I wish him the best and plan to follow his new team a little bit.

I'm shocked that UTSA was the best job he could get. Hell, Tulane is crazy for not making a run at him when they had their opening. That's a better job than UTSA and he's already has an established recruiting network in New Orleans.

Wilson was an organized and tireless recruiter with connections all over the southeast. For many people, he was the face of LSU. He will surely be missed.

Big difference between recruiting N.O. for LSU and recruiting N.O. for UTSA. imo

I see you didn't completely read what I wrote. I made that comment in regards to Tulane. Not UTSA.

Man, I wish him all the luck in the world. Hey look everybody!, the right fricking way to leave your coaching job.

I get your points but losing your recruiting coordinator weeks before signing day is never a good timing. That being said, it is a time chosen by UTSA not Wilson. Wish he best luck as a head coach. Well deserved the opportunity.

As OP said, of course we would have hoped he would never leave, but he wanted to be a head coach and we knew it would eventually happen for him. I'm happy for coach Wilson, but naturally sad to lose him. I hope he succeeds at UTSA.

I don't care who he recruits for and I am not disrespecting him in any way, but recruiting for LSU opens a lot of doors for him that without the LSU tag will not be open for him.
Tulane, with all due respect to the school and their football, is a sports wasteland and I can easily understand Wilson wanting no part of it.

Yeah I have to agree with OP.
Hate to see him go, but we all knew it was coming. And since we have Ed O, another ELITE recruiter, we are in as good of a position as we will be to handle the departure of Wilson.

I selfishly wanted him to stay, but am glad he got a head coaching position. On a plus side, he didnt end up as an OC at a Power5 school so we don't have to recruit against him.

You are either Ben Love or you heard him say the exact same thing on his show yesterday.
I'm going with Ben Love because it's pretty much word for word.
