re: Does it bother you when players leave early?

No it doesn't bother me what someone else does with their life
I miss rooting for them, yes.

I don't get mad....but I feel sorry for some of them. Clearly some don't have strong advisors in their ears. They have a lot of people in their ear saying "go get paid". Problem is that some won't get paid nor get an education. A year can seem like a long time to wait but many times that year extra is priceless. An example would be getting a 2 year nursing degree vs a 4 year. Some want the money NOW...and don't realize or can't see that while sacrificing a little now, could pay huge dividends long-term. Problem is a lot of the " advisors" can't think long term themselves.

If lf7 stays four years that would not be smart on his part. Sorry. For selfish reasons I'd love him to stay...but what good does that do him? He gets more physically developed? Lol

big money has irreparably altered every aspect of college athletics.

Hell yes it bothers me. When LF leaves early he'll be subject to the same 72-hour shunning I give everyone else.
ETA: I'm being dramatic but whenever anyone declares early I'm very happy for them--after a short, admittedly selfish, period of time where I lament them not returning. Then perspective returns, and I'm cheering them on at the draft.

100% doesn't bother me and it shouldn't bother anyone else either. These are very difficult decisions these kids have to deal with, and they are trying to do what's best for themselves, their families, and their futures. As fans, we just need to support their choices no matter what they decide to do.

No, because they're making their own professional choices. I believe we've seen a few go in drafted or late round though, and they probably would have been better served staying another year.
Regardless of all that, it's impossible to ignore the damage its done to the football program. The 2013 and 2014 teams were out of the championship race before the seasons even started due to the exodus.
Those two teams lost more guys early than the entire SEC West combined over the same two-year period.

Every persons situation is different and they have to make the best decision for themselves.
But many kids leave too early when staying may help them. But if you are a first or second rounder, why take the risk? Unless you just want to stay and it is important to you.
The 1 year basketball rule is the one that needs to be changed

So, what does that make the players who leave early?

LF7 is staying 4 years. Book it.
If LF7 stays all 4 years he needs to be committed to an insane asylum. He'd be flat out of his mind to not leave as soon as he can. And anyone who wants him to stay all 4 years and risk injury is a sicko.

Exactly.

Sam M and people and like that I don't like leaving early.

Does it bother me? Yes...I think it bothers everyone because it doesn't benefit me as a fan or the team as a whole.
Do I hold it against a man because he is doing what he feels is best for his future or his career? No, not at all. I wish them well and hope to watch them on Sundays.

college athletics should always remain an avenue to an education, not a minor league for professional sports.
kids should be allowed to go straight into the pros. if they choose to get an education, they should have to stay 4 years. the only exception I would make is for running backs, simply because they take such a pounding. their careers are going to be shorter than anyone else.
I am biased. I hate professional sports.
and please don't accuse me of being racist, wanting an all white league. I sincerely believe that our black athletes are better served getting a real education. there just aren't that many slots out there for professional athletes. all athletes are far more valuable than just being entertainers.

These two scenarios are so completely different that it makes your question silly

you actually think about it we really don't know these guys financial situation. Us as fans tend to forget that even the bench warmers in the NFL make great money, some may not be millionaires but still really great money
Have to realize some have no other options to make big money. Ones who stay upgrade their draft stock, or they have other directions if the NFL doesn't work out. That's the way I look at it.

I'm drawing a blank on his name, but when we had our left tackle in 2012 get hurt and he declared right after and went undrafted and never made it on a practice squad, nothing, I thought that was a shame.
I thought Anthony Johnson coming out and going undrafted was a shame.

It was easier to make this argument before the rookie comp was changed. Now rookie salaries are minimally different after a certain point and the race is on to get a 2nd contract. Risk/Reward now favors leaving early for most kids in this position who most likely come from low income households.
