Who do you put on Simmons then? That's the hard part and key for a box and 1. If the 1 guy that's going man to man can't guard the offensive player, the box and 1 is worthless.

And yes, Hornsby would destroy the box.

Box and 1 is middle school stuff.

They just need to be smart and timely with their double team, trapping, and rotations.

If I'm Kentucky, I just sag toward the basket. Hornsby is not going to beat Kentucky by himself from three-point land.

Really, John Wooden kept it simple decades ago when asked how he'd defend Pete Maravich. He said, "We'll try to hold him to his average and not let the others score much."

If I was Calipari, I would slam coeds at Sig Ep tonight with Anthony Davis.

Doesn't work so well if you can get Simmons on the block

not to mention he will get 15 assists in this scenario

What?

It is. If the defender that's going to man to man on the 1 offensive player can't guard him, then the other defenders have to help out and leave their spot in the box. Leaving lots of open space on the block or at the T. And with Simmons IQ, passing ability, and height, he will be able to just pass over the top of it to a wide open player.

It essentially becomes a double team on Simmons, leaving you playing 3v4 on the backside. And with Simmons IQ, passing ability, and height advantage, double teaming him would be a mistake. A skip pass across the floor is all it takes to get your 3v4 advantage.

Not too difficult.

There won't be a box and 1, but they'll probably sag a lot of zone.

You would play a box and 1 because NO ONE can guard the guy man to man.

The best way to guard LSU is to man up across the board and take away the other 4 players. Simmons is gonna get his no matter what, so focus on stopping the other 4 players.

Just like what teams would do to LBJ when he was with the Cavs the 1st time. He's gonna get his, it's inevitable. So focus on stopping the other players and make him beat you by himself.

I would honestly focus on stopping Hornsby rather than Simmons. You won't be able to stop Simmons anyways, he will get his. But Hornsby is the X- factor and the Robin to Simmons Batman. Take away Hornsby, make Simmosn carry the entire offensive load, and tire him out. That's your best bet IMO.
