I love listening to the slap dicks holding court talking about all the rain we have had lately and how it's making the river so high.
rainfall in south la does not drain to the river - it drains away from the river...

All this rain is keeping our levee systems soft. This is a very big issue for S La. This is the time to concerned. This is the worst case scenario we have seen. 9 levees have failed & another 20 probably will fail in the next couple days in Missouri. When engineering practices are failing it's a big deal.

When there are failures of levees & dams it messes the math up. More water headed our way in a faster release that what is forecasted.

In the OT thread the crest in Missouri will be 3 ft above the record and is projected to be higher than their flood wall.... To make matters worse this water will be cold as shite so not only worry about drowning but hypothermia as well. This is a truly nasty situation in the midwest and we have yet to get our test.

The cold is litterly the only helping at the point. If the wind starts blowing out of the South in the next month there is a very good chance Hoolywood will make movies about this flood.

I wish the Red had a spillway.

Hell at this point I wish all the gates worked.

I'm passing over MS in Natchez today. I'll try to get a pic

Some water could be diverted through Rapides into Avoyelles, but when the river gets high, all gates are closed out of fear that they would not be able to close them back. of course, that just puts it on someone else, and I am ignorant of their ability to deal with it.

These pics are the ultimate example of Government failing it's people. Engineering practices are useless unless they are maintained.

I find it curious that New Orleans gets to 17 (flood stage) on 1/9 and stays there for weeks. Is that because it will be maintained at 17 by spillway openings, or is that where the model tops out? The levees are supposed to be 20'.

My understanding is COE will open anything and everything to keep Carrollton gauge at 17.
