re: Why doesn't A&M test the waters for Hermann or a new coach now?

Using that metric, Kansas State is the most profitable athletics dept. in the USA.
Insert Robert DeNiro cackling gif again.

isn't it like an understood thing that hes waiting for the texas job?
I think that's more of an internet meme thing.

If Herman waits a yr the UT job will probably be his, his two dream jobs are Texas or TOSU.

really? how do you know this? did he say it in a article somewhere that you can link or do you know this from personal conversations with him? or maybe this is some internet meme people have made up because he coached at those schools.

That's just what's been going around, if A&M does make a move and throw a boat load of money in his lap I'm sure he would consider it. Tanner did his best to get him to Columbia but to no avail, UGA did not even contact him.

that doesn't make it true, you stated it like it was a fact

Why does A&M have to do it now? If he'd take the A&M job now, why wouldn't he take it after next season? And you are making 2 assumptions as if they are facts No one knows if the Texas will be open or if that is the "dream job" for Tom Herman.

Wow, you have great sources to know all this stuff
Just because it is the SEC does not make USCe a "great" job. Out side of a 3 year stretch with Spurrier and Clowney, it is basically a 7-5 type of program. With Clemson rolling it is even tougher. I wouldn't touch that job with a 10 foot pole if i was a guy like Herman, much greater chance to flop there than at UH the next couple of years.
Looks like UGA zeroed in on Smart from the get go and didn't contact anyone else.

Would be a good idea to let Herman prove himself a few more years before drowning him with money.
Coaching salaries have gotten crazy and I think that trend is about to reverse.

Why? Barring some new law that genie is out of the bottle.

I figured it would have been upped with the extension but I guess not
It was and it got more complicated.
quote:
Under the terms of the new contract, Herman's original buyout of $2.25 million gets extended a year to Feb. 28, 2019. The buyout is $2.5 million prior to Feb. 28, 2017. However, the $2.5 million buyout gets reduced by 25% if a planned $20 million indoor facility project is not approved by Houston's board of regents by Sept. 1, 2016. The $2.25 million buyout gets reduced by 50% if construction of the indoor practice facility isn’t at or near completion by Dec. 1, 2017, and reduced by 75% if the facility isn’t at or near completion by Dec. 1, 2018.
So the base is 2.5 mil through Feb 28, 2017, unless:
1. a planned $20 million indoor facility project is not approved by Houston's board of regents by Sept. 1, 2016. - That's 25% off the 2.5 mil.
2. $2.25 million buyout gets reduced by 50% if construction of the indoor practice facility isn’t at or near completion by Dec. 1, 2017 - then 2.25 mil is reduced 50%.
3. reduced by 75% if the facility isn’t at or near completion by Dec. 1, 2018. - then 2.25 mil is reduced by 75%
It's a moot point because Sumlin is owed 20 million through the next 4 years (unless you can find cause to fire him [and follow the procedures; see USC]).

Why would Herman want to go to A&M ?
Become an Aggie ???

Why would aTm want to go down that road again? Plus Hermann really isn't proven yet tbh.
A&M will give Sumlin another year, although nothing to think they will do any better next year. Under Sumlin, A&M is a 'winning program', but I don't think that's what they had in mind when they hired him. That first year they beat Bama had Johnny Football, things were looking up, but as we have seen, they are nowhere near being an SEC Title contending team.
